That is correct the Platinum Edge does not give you Gold. Need Platinum Charge. As a Gold member I have generally been upgraded to Executive rooms with lounge access. Haven't been lucky enough to be upgraded to a suite yet :-|

Yes that is correct, however there have been reports that people have applied for the Platinum Edge after getting the Explorer and have been able to link the 2 together.

Just called the number on the back of card 1800 059 388. Spoke to someone who is based in the Philippines, they were able to link the Explorer with the Platinum Edge and combine the total points together. They said it should be complete within 48 hours.

Yes that is perfectly normal. I have never received a confirmation email for any of my cards. You should receive the card and a welcome pack in a couple days.

Well for those who got in early, we can all be thankful this is only showing up on Ozbargain now. This will surely kill this for anybody still running small transactions on this account.

Re: Amex "I'm going to cancel my card" bonus given thread. 23k offered and accepted for inquiring about cancelling my Platinum Edge. Pretty low spend on it this year as I have only really used it for fuel and groceries.

I did this from MEL. Flew MEL-SYD and then SYD-SIN-HKG. Definitely worth it. Nothing quite like watching a movie stretched out in a converted double bed :p
