    UK election 2019

The Tories had a Brexit platform that, in the last few months, was clear. Labour didn't. Both leaders were battered by the media - I still think for a lot of good reasons and elections are often the choice of the lesser of two evils. The results, though still not finalised, look very close to...

Qantas doesn't care about priority boarding

See my post #252 above for a similar experience. I'd describe it as a cross between chaos and mayhem :)

Qantas doesn't care about priority boarding

QF678 ADL-MEL yesterday (December2). Straggly lines for premium and general had formed. The boarding order was given initially for those seated row 14 and beyond to board via the rear stairs. The premium queue waited patiently for about 2 minutes then there were a number who changed queues...

    2020 Travel Plans

2020 is largely firmed. It starts with a couple of weeks in Sydney and Bowral for cricket and family and friends visits. In February (aka cyclone season !) we are doing a 14 day Silversea South Pacific cruise Sydney-Sydney visiting Fiji, Vanuatu and New Caledonia followed immediately by a week...

    PR or not?

I'm looking for some general direction steering. I'm starting to plan for a trip to the US around Christmas 2020 in order to pick up a cruise from Miami. I'll be able to book in a 2-3 months. The chances of getting to LA or SF around Christmas in Business Class with a subsequent flight...

Where to eat in Port Douglas?

In their day, under Jeff, I think they were very good. Salsa for me now. :)

Where to eat in Port Douglas?

Sadly, they seem to have closed permanently late last week.

Time for Qantas Finally to Dump Neil Perry? Rockpool Engaged in Massive Wage Theft (alleged)

I had a Rockpool meal earlier this week at a function at their Alfred Place corporate rooms in Melbourne. I am pretty sure NP didn't cook it personally but I'd sack whoever did. No loss to Qantas if they bite the bullet.

Qantas we need you [to service Cairns Internationally]

It's news to me that the economy in Cairns is booming. After the Crystalbrook developments there is very little building on the horizon. The vacancy level of commercial and retail properties in Cairns, the beaches and Port Douglas looks as high as during the GFC and earlier crises. This report...

I'm not sure this idea is going to fly here :)

Hard to see this one having wings in this forum. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/oct/14/air-miles-should-be-taxed-to-deter-frequent-fliers-advises-report

    Test Cricket 2019

I'm booked for the first three days of each of the summer Tests, except Melbourne where it is only the second day because of other commitments. I'm expecting two hard fought series and a return to form by Warner (if not it will be time for him to join the various hit and giggle competitions...

    QF availability using AA miles

I'm trying to use some stray AA miles for a QF domestic booking. The AA website tells me there is nothing available any date. Is this new? If it is does someone mind making a dummy booking to check? many thanks.

Who's responsible when there is a missed connection ?

The only explanation for the delay from UA was "technical issues" The outcome was that he was treated well by UA in terms of accommodation and meals overnight in LA. NZ put him on the VA flight direct to Australia the next day rather than an NZ flight via AKL.

Who's responsible when there is a missed connection ?

Not sure what flight he is on home but UA have paid for his overnight accommodation.

Who's responsible when there is a missed connection ?

A friend is currently at LAX at 00:30 on a EWR-LAX-AKL-MEL journey on an NZ issued ticket. The UA flight to LAX was delayed 4+ hours in NYC and the connection on NZ to AKL was missed. There are no NZ reps around and one solitary UA person trying to deal with a lot of people lined up. He has no...

Emirates taking liberties with medical assistance?

My OH's specialty is sexual health. So far he has not had the need to put that into practice in an emergency on a plane but you never know when it could happen. :) He usually defers to anyone with more recent and relevant training and experience.
