    First time First Class

Yes it is, but you may as well call it 46.5c in the dollar as you need to include the medicate levy. A couple of years ago (can't remember when exactly) it was 48.5c in the dollar (47c tax plus the medicare levy). But when you are paying this much, the difference between 45% and 47% is...

Qantas mag goes against the trend

No, I haven't received one either. This is sad :(, this is the only "top 1%" of anything I thought I should be able to make (avg of ~2,000 SC/year for the last 6 years, with over 3,100 last year). btw, this is not a serious complaint, so don't feel the need to console me ;).

    F lounge invite

Each time (quite a few ;)) I have been in the SIN FLounge there has been the mini pizzas available at some time during my visit. I haven't been in the JLounge for awhile, do they have proper pizzas or how are they different to those in the FLounge?

    Need opinion from Tumi owners

Okay. I will need to remember to check the actual dimensions when I purchase my next carryon then, rather than rely on the manufacturer calling it a carryon. If challenged, I suppose they would rely on their statement being "carry-on style", rather than "carry-on".

    Need opinion from Tumi owners

Is the extra 2in in the name only related to the 2in expansion available, rather than to the standard dimensions? You would assume Tumi would only advertise it as a "carryon" if it fit in the normal guages.

Qantas New Check In Seating Allocation

I used OLCI for QF626 MEL-BNE yesterday (checked in about 4 hours before flight) and was allocated 4C (WP with aisle/forward preference). This was my best seating for awhile, so thought the new system will be good :), although this was a 16.05 departure, so not the most crowded. Then...

QF generosity - Thank You very much

You're right of course, every little bit helps, and they are always better in my pocket than left with QF .

QF generosity - Thank You very much

I also have had good service from QF lately, with a number of op-ups and a $200 voucher as compensation for a significant delay on QF9 out of MEL that caused me to miss my QF5 connection in SIN. Interestingly, due to the delay I was rerouted through LHR, staying on QF9, and then BA on to TGL...

    Vaccinations for Thailand

Thanks all for the responses. I will make time to get the Hep A. I have already had most others while in the Army, but don't think I had Hep A. Main thing is I ensured the family got what the doctor recommended.

    Vaccinations for Thailand

Thanks, looks like I should make the effort and get the Hep A at least. We are staying at good hotels and will only drink bottled water, but as you say the worry is the ice they put in my G&Ts.

    Vaccinations for Thailand

Thanks. I have read several of these type sites, and of course they all advise Hep A and one or two others. However, they have to err on the side of caution, so I was hoping for some more real world advice from those that have visited there.

    Vaccinations for Thailand

My family and I are travelling to Thailand in September (Bangkok and Kho Samui), and knowing the level of general travel expertise here, I was wondering what people thought was necessary regarding vaccinations. We have heard that Hep A is really all that is needed, and my family has got that...

    Qantas increases full-year profit 44%

Its good to know the exhorbitant fuel fines we are paying are helping them . And looking at what they say about the coming year, it can only get worse!!

    Car Hire West Coast USA

I agree with both recommendations here. I used Alamo last year and the rates are very competitive and the car/service etc is good. And Hwy 1 is a very good drive, the scenery is spectacular. Have fun :).

    Upgrades Syd -LAX

Do you mean a points upgrade or an op-up? If you mean points upgrade, then I cannot say whether flying from Sydney or Brisbane will give you a better chance, but the LA routes are always difficult to get a points upgrade on. What is your QFF status, as that will be a major factor in your...

    Any tips on free upgrades?

Even better if they are flying out of TBIT in LA, they can access the new QF lounge there, which looks (haven't been in the J lounge, but got a glimpse as I went to the shower from the FLounge) to be better than the AC, with an open bar etc.

    Any tips on free upgrades?

You have probably already thought of it (your planning seems very thorough), but just in case, I suggest you get a Nav system in your car. They are not expensive to include in a rental, but for the time you are going it may be worth buying one. They really are very helpful in the US, and take a...

    An op-up at last

Well it involved being completely naked, except for the feathers and chicken blood ;). Seriously though, I suspect my accruing over 3000 SCs this membership year may have had something to do with it. I'm not sure if the QF staff at the QP/FLounge/gates have access to this level of information...

    F Class Lounge Menu

Due to the 5 hour delay on QF9 on 7/7 I missed my connection to QF5 in SIN, and so got routed via LHR instead. This gave me the opportunity to try the FLounge in T5 for the first time. The FLounge itself is large and quite good. The showers are outside and shared with the J lounge, but...
