    Cost cutting off the scale....

Looks like the ME3 may finally have to compete on a more commercial basis. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. Won take much of a fall in international travel to see them in dire straits. Just a slow in the growth and low oil prices is already hobbling them.

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9 ah OK. so transfer to SPG and then get the 5K bonus with the airline. 2.5c per point is not the cheapest, but not too bad.

David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $99

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9 So if I'm understanding how the DJ card works The MR points earned are worth half the miles when compared to the MR points earned via an Edge card? So the current offer is 40K MR points that can be converted...

    NBN Discussion

looks like NBN services will get a bit more expensive with the $7.10 per month levy to help subsidise FW and Sat connections. Removing the USO may help to cut a few % off the increase, but for a lot of customers they'll be looking at a 10% jump in their month costs, along with the rapacious...

    Australian Housing Affordability Discussion

from citibank today Channel checks indicate apartment rebates have moved to >10%. Feedback from our Australian Property Conference and mystery shopping highlight a clear change in the apartment market, particularly so in Perth, Brisbane and to a greater extent in Melbourne. A tier 1 developer...

    Passengers off loaded

i think something along the lines of EU261 is good, but it seems a bit harsh. Something I often wonder about is how airlines plan for periods they know bad weather commonly occurs. Should the airlines be held accountable if they schedule the same number of flights when snow storms are a...

What's your prediction on the Australian Dollar?

got to wonder what's going on in the currency markets the terms of trade is falling fast after the brief spike in met coal and I/O. Chinese I/O port stocks are MASSIVE, FMG has to discount their low grade ore by 25% car manufacturers will shut shop over the next few months. resi dwelling...

    Alitalia files for bankruptcy

me thinks the main value for a suitor would be the bilateral agreements and landing slots that Italia has. With the slow down in growth a few airlines are going to have to go bust. there's going to be a lot of parked planes the way things are going.

    NBN Discussion

In the good old days when ATM ruled the roost in the telco world you had the concept of CIR and PIR committed information rate was pretty much the minnimum speed you'd get peak information rate was what you might be allowed to burst up to if the carrier had some spare capacity. Possibly the...

    NBN Discussion

Just remember NBN get a $24-38 cut for the AVC charge, then another $15.75 per 1 Mbs of CVC capacity. So do the math on a cut price $65 plan, needing to also pay for backhaul from the NBN POI, then some internet transit, staff wages, rent, equipment costs.... There's also the rackspace...

    Australian Housing Affordability Discussion

buying now, with a ~3% yield means you believe either rents will increase as a % of the value of the property, or that prices will increase so as someone is willing to accept a lower yield than you did ie the great fool theory. Interest-only (IO) loans account for a sizeable and growing share...

Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion sort of makes United Mileage Plus a bit easier choice, especially if you can take adv of the free stopover that united offers on a return ticket. at least they generally don't require screen shots to get a booking. me thinks CX is going to...

Flight booking sites with Australian transactions

What i'd like to know is what justification the local banks have in terms of charging the forex fee if another entity has already done the conversion. the RBA says these kind of fees are for cost recovery, not to make a profit eg the airlines were pinged and had to change their CC fee...

Why no major Y seat developments?

it's a race to making flying so miserable people just wont do it. thinner cushioned seats, less width, 28" seat pitch. if i can't play the miles game i'd prob give up international travel.

    KLIA2 enhanced security

Basically the security person conducted a thorough pat down. As soon as you have some "no go" regions on a pat down you can be sure that's were something will be hidden. personally I'd like them to get the millimeter wave scanners installed. it's a bit less invasive.
