China Airlines reward seats using Qantas points

I'm going to add a few bits which mostly repeat/confirm what others have said in various posts/threads, but hey, all in one place  I made two J redemptions a few days ago, reasonable value TPE-YVR and then YVR-TPE-MEL. It's really hard to avoid the extremely long daytime layover in TPE...

Public Transport to our airports - what's cheapest?

And imagine if there were some modifications of tram priority along the way!!

Public Transport to our airports - what's cheapest?

Once you take into account the cost of each kilometre of tunnel (ballpark $100m/km), completely new infrastructure for its entirety, the immense delays associated with planning, geological testing, site acquisition, community objection, etc, it is immediately clear why a tunnel is pie-in-the-sky...

Oh my search didn't yield results that seemed to be the same scenario, sorry!👍

    Strange travel credit situation

My Explorer anniversary date is next week and I'm planning to cancel (my last attempt to cancel, a few months ago, resulted in an acceptable retention offer, so I doubt I'll get another now). However, i just noticed that I received the $400 annual travel credit about 15 days ago! This seems very...

The incredible cost of hotels in North America...

Weird stuff, eh. Maybe all that revenue-up is in the "resort/destination fee" gouging  (which might end up being outlawed sometime soon if Joe Biden gets his way).

Getting seats to North America and back in points-based comfort and without swearing too much

AND I've now discovered another reason to hate QF... I checked this availability and it sure is there from SYD, but even though there's award availability on the first flight MEL-SYD of the day, giving a legal 3hr transfer, Qantas isn't offering this routing if you search MEL-LAX. FFS.

Getting seats to North America and back in points-based comfort and without swearing too much

That's great feedback thank you. :) If only I could jump on it! August is just a tad too early (self-employed and have to plan absences way in advance).

7 days between landing in CDG and leaving from FRA - suggestions?

Seven days is not a lot, realistically. Given the question, I would assume you've not spent much/any time in that part of Europe. Keep It Simple. Paris is fantastic on so many levels (and you can see suggestions and enthusiasm above), but I meet lots of people who somehow aren't prepared for the...

Getting seats to North America and back in points-based comfort and without swearing too much

I'm on a foolhardy quest to create a comfortable trip to/from North America ex Melbourne, using my relative paucity of hard-scrounged SQKF miles and/or my Covid-induced slightly better stashes or QFF and VA points... (I also have 65K Amex... but I don't think that'll solve these problems). I'm...

The incredible cost of hotels in North America...

I've also found some surprising domestic bargains on American Express Travel in the last year, but not sure if this happens for North America.

The incredible cost of hotels in North America...

Ok, so I'm not going nuts - that's the first benefit of all your comments, thank you! I appreciated the AAA tip. Still seems like the baseline is outrageous... I saw a dorm-bed for US$150 and thought I was misreading the currency! (And I don't do dorms!)

The incredible cost of hotels in North America...

I've been a very infrequent traveller to North America in the last twenty years, but each time have been aware that hotel prices tend to be much higher than in Australia for my category of accommodation. Looking at prices now for a number of cities, it seems like the difference is even greater...

Article: Europe Doesn’t Recognise Australian Vaccination Certificates

For many obvious reasons: available time, available routings, personal priorities. And until recently (and perhaps still in some places), the fact that you can move freely within Schengen now doesn't mean you have guaranteed full access to all facilities unless you achieve the use of a local...

Article: No Availability: What’s the Point of Buying LifeMiles in 2022?

I think people have to accept that points are either a short play or a game of patience. We're in an exceptional period still, from minimal travel and few planes to bazillions of travellers with hoards of points. There's no reason to assume it won't settle down to the "good old days", but it...

    Velocity reinstates Singapore Airlines redemptions

I don't think that's the case anymore. Or not always the case. When I was looking quite extensively at MEL-SIN-Europe and v/v two months ago for later this year there was a massive disparity in what the VA website offered vs SQ Saver J . Basically less than half of the Saver award seats visible...

Article: Europe Doesn’t Recognise Australian Vaccination Certificates

Well $#@ me! I booked a trip months ago (for the future) just moments before they reversed their acceptance of non-essential Australian travellers, so to speak. A month later they allowed Aus tourists back, but only with testing (ok, fine), just a week ago the situation was unchanged, and then...

Priority Pass free visits when bank's card has been closed

I have a PP membership with two free visits, via a Bank of Melbourne card. That card account was closed some time ago. Is it necessary for the card still to be active for the free visits to work? (I'm not sure, for instance, whether a charge is sent through to the "gifting" bank and is then...

Qantas classic reward to Singapore - No business awards available?

That's barely two months away, with very high demand for OS travel now. As for next year, I don't know that route well enough from a QF rewards perspective, but school holidays and Easter fall in that period, so it depends on things like that too. And with QF anything else is possible too...
