Strange travel credit situation

My Explorer anniversary date is next week and I'm planning to cancel (my last attempt to cancel, a few months ago, resulted in an acceptable retention offer, so I doubt I'll get another now). However, i just noticed that I received the $400 annual travel credit about 15 days ago! This seems very strange... and surely looks like I could use this credit without incurring the annual fee. How odd. (I don't have any particular reason to use it right now.) Has anyone else been in this situation?

Quite normal. Well reported on AFF.

I use the 2nd credit to forward book a hotel room and then cancel the card. Never been an issue when it came time to stay at the hotel even though the card had been cancelled.

Oh my search didn't yield results that seemed to be the same scenario, sorry!👍
