    The view from my "office"

When you land at Perth airport (Hades) and are greeted by a wall of heat ...you may wish you were back in the Antarctic region ! Welcome home.

    Gin!

When you next come over to WA for a holiday you must go down to Albany and stop in at the Great Southern Distilling Company. They are on Frenchman Bay Road and make a Giniversity Gin, as seen here. Also advertise Limeburners Whisky and Tiger Snake Whiskey..sounds lethal !

Parmelia Hilton Perth Refurbishment Commencing 8 December 2019

The Ritz Carlton - Perth opened nearby at Elizabeth Quay last week, so a bit of competition for the very old Hilton. The Queen and Prince Philip actually stayed at the Hilton many years ago when our old Government House needed repairs. The Ritz - will have brand new bells and whistles and lots...

Gallivanting the globe 2019 - RTW and then some

It looks fascinating and makes me realise I know very little (zilch) about the history of the area. Did you read up about the culture beforehand ? Everything looks so clean and well laid out, and there appears to be no graffiti ?

    The view from my "office"

Wot no car park ? I am disappointed about the colour, as I feel a black and white shot would have conveyed the bone weariness of the single man walking down the stairs on his way home from work. However I do like the elongated shadows thrown against the buildings and the enigmatic quality of...

Three months away - Italy & UK

It was physically demanding, but I felt I had to do it to see many of the places I wanted to see before I die ! Can’t believe that I had 23 years of my mid life where due to a mortgage, 2 kids and a full time job with only 4 weeks off a year, I never even left Australia for our holidays. This...

Three months away - Italy & UK

I was sad to leave the UK, but I also missed seeing my family here - especially my 4 year old grandson. Not so thrilled about leaving a heatwave in London and getting back to winter in Perth, early August. Time for a visit to source authentic Continental food at the Re Store, to put on an...

Three months away - Italy & UK

I have wanted to visit Brighton, Sussex since 1970, to see the outlandish Regency decor of the Royal Pavillion (built by John Nash) - no photography allowed inside. I finally got the chance this trip, as a 5W member I contacted lives in Brighton. I took the 9.30am off peak train down from...

Three months away - Italy & UK

Informative timed tour of Chartwell. Clementine made sure it had a homely decor and many world leaders seemed to appreciate spending time there. There was a talk in his artists studio where many of Churchill’s paintings are on display. W lunch on the terrace overlooking the beautiful Weald of...

Three months away - Italy & UK

In my last week in the UK I managed day trips to Canterbury for lunch, Chartwell - Winston Churchill’s family home in Kent and finally a train trip to Brighton for the day. Then packing and niece gave me a lift to Gatwick (what a bun fight that airport is). ::Note to self..study AFF tips in...

    What to do over Christmas

Book the best accomodation available, as from distant memory some of it is still fairly basic on the island. Meals at Riva Restaurant at Karma Resort, Thomsons or Frankies described as casual. Or self cater with food from General Store or delivery from Coles on mainland to the island. One...
