Plating up again – at Dirk Hartog Island

Time to head back to Denham. Just the sort of track you’d take a 2WD rental car on… - not. Let’s see if I can hold steady enough to get some action shots while ploughing through. There was not a great risk of getting bogged on the main track in the fine red sand; it was just...

Plating up again – at Dirk Hartog Island

Then we headed into Francois Peron NP. After airing-down, we bee-lined to the Cape. We were barely 5 minutes into the park when an outgoing vehicle slid as they passed our friends running at #2 in our group, clipping the rear corner of their LandCruiser. Some panel damage and the taillight unit...

Plating up again – at Dirk Hartog Island

Righto, home again after a sensational trip. A routine drive to Geraldton on the first day. Next day we awoke to an extensive cold front coming in. It wasn’t stormy, just cloudy and drizzly for a good part of the day. The blue line is this year’s route, with the red being essentially last...

All Roads (High & Rough) Lead to Ladakh-Another Indian Adventure

Also in Chile - Atacama Desert and vehicle parked at 5001m (just had to do it. ;)). I walked (slowly) a little higher. Vehicle objected to re-starting; I should have parked it facing downhill. Sorry for the hijack. High altitude can be fun, but it can be messy.

Life Time Gold - The [Realistic] Holy Grail

You want to prove you're SG (because that is all it is to QF)!?🧐 I'm LTG 3X but still weeping that I'm no longer WP after 20-odd years straight. 😭 The adjustment takes a heavy psychological toll... BUT - the shackles are off...:) Slowly adjusting...😝

Plating up again – at Dirk Hartog Island

Tomorrow it’s on the road again heading north for another expedition to Dirk Hartog Island. I went last year, but the original plan for just PJM and me to go was upended by a string of circumstances. Rather than cancel, my brother and I went, with another expedition of six people this year...

    Ask The Pilot

That was one aspect of the three examples above that I wondered about. Were they so far off the mark that it should have reasonably triggered a "This doesn't look right." type of response? Or is it so finely balanced that it's not so easy to be attuned to that?

    Ask The Pilot

It appears that incorrect (manual?) data entry was the cause in each of the three cases and the error propagated undetected through the whole takeoff process. What processes are in place to either prevent that happening or detecting that something doesn't seem quite right before the point of no...

Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

I took that one and I'm pretty sure everyone pinged it as chenin blanc. However, the theme was South African wines, so that likely made a difference.
