I've lost count of the number of times someone working in one of Qantas' overseas call centres told me there was no availability, but the folks in Hobart or Auckland can see it. It's a really poor customer experience and Qantas really ought to have fixed this by now.

Are you sure? My reading of this is the opposite. I.e. if you book before 5 August and then need to make a change, you'll still get the lower rates.

I don’t think there is a lounge at RAI but I agree, will eat at the airport beforehand. The difference between this and a VA flight is that VA didn’t advertise a free meal when I paid them for my ticket, so I would not have any expectations of getting one.
