    IHG Confirmable Suite Upgrades

Yeah, I did find that page while I was on the phone with IHG. The exclusion that applied here was “Prepaid rates if deposit is already applied”. I had not yet been charged a deposit by the hotel, so it wasn’t immediately obvious to me that this exclusion applied in this case. But apparently...

    IHG Confirmable Suite Upgrades

I just tried to use one of my Confirmable Suite Upgrades at an Intercontinental. I'd booked a "Book Early and Save Member Exclusive" rate, which is non-refundable. When I called up, the guy told me that this was not an eligible rate to use a CSU because a deposit was required at the time of...

    QANTAS International Red Tail sale

There are some decent J sale fares to NZ, but annoyingly you have to book them as a return ticket. I'm looking for a one-way fare. Might just have to nest the return. Nobody really knows, but based on Qantas' past track record I'd expect to see another offer within the next 1-2 months.

    QANTAS International Red Tail sale

That's not included in the current VA international sale. For all intents and purposes, Virgin is treating these as a separate product to its own short-haul international flights. But that's a topic for another thread :)

ITA Airways leaving Skyteam for Star Alliance

Nice that they've given lots of notice that my ITA Airways status will no longer be recognised by other SkyTeam airlines. (To the extent it was recognised last week, anyway.)

    booking FROM Addis Ababa

Yeah, unfortunately the Qantas website won't sell you a ticket originating in any country in Africa except South Africa. You'll have to book the flight out of ADD as part of an itinerary starting elsewhere (use the multi-city booking tool if you have to), or otherwise call up...

    QANTAS International Red Tail sale

Virgin Australia is running an international sale now as well. A much less interesting selection of destinations though, since VA only really flies overseas to Queenstown, Fiji, Apia, Port Vila and Bali. https://www.virginaustralia.com/au/en/specials/international-sale/

Flying QR ex DOH - Lounge access and priority checking and boarding for Qantas Gold

You can access the Qatar Airways Gold Lounge (South) or the combined Gold & Platinum Lounge. Unfortunately this isn't as nice as the Al Mourjan Lounge which is exclusively for business class passengers.

Credit Card Offers Virgin Money Velocity Flyer Offers & Discussion

The sign-up bonus on this card has just dropped from 60,000 to 50,000 Velocity points. I'm not sure about the promo on the Virgin Money website that says this is enough points to visit your fried in London. It now costs 80,000 Velocity points for a one-way Economy Reward Seat from Sydney or...

Article: What's Your Seat Recline Strategy?

On a related note, has anyone noticed that in the marketing shots airlines use for economy seats, the passengers in the photo have usually fully reclined their seats while the seats in front are unreclined? What expectations does that set about space on board, and whether airlines think it’s OK...

New Qantas route - Perth to Paris from July 2024

Well, yesterday’s PER-CDG flight had 32 pax in Y. PE less than half full but J completely full. Today’s CDG-PER has only 3 empty seats on the whole plane though.

Transfer Accor points to Everyday Rewards

Yeah, it's still a nah from me. 2,000 Accor points = €40 (AUD66 at the current exchange rate). That's worth more than 2,500 Qantas points.

SkyTeam Status Match - ITA Airways

I certainly didn’t get free seat selection - was randomly allocated a (window, thankfully) seat at checkin and asked to pay €27 to change it! I wonder if I did something wrong 😂 🤷‍♂️

SkyTeam Status Match - ITA Airways

Like many others, I got an offer towards the end of last year to book a flight and fly ITA Airways by 31 January to get my Volare status extended for (yet) another year. So, it's now 31 January and I'm sitting in the ITA Airways lounge at FCO, about to fly to BCN. They've renovated their lounge...

New aviation industry ombudsman & customer rights charter in Australia

It turns out even Saudi Arabia has a more progressive aviation compensation scheme than Australia. I flew out of Jeddah yesterday, and there were signs all over the airport informing passengers of their rights for cancellations, delays, downgrades, denied boarding, etc. with a QR code you could...

Article: Should Airlines Rebook Sick Passengers for Free?

I just got off a JED-IST flight that was basically a sea of coughing passengers. I asked for a face mask, and the crew gave me one, but I really wonder if the airline could or should have done more to discourage so many obviously sick people to board the flight in the first place. Or at the very...

    ZERO alcohol drinks on airlines

Qatar Airways serves a "luxury non-alcoholic bubbly" in J/F and in its first class lounge. I tried it last week and it was fine, but didn't really taste like champagne at all - just a nice sparkling grape juice/cider.
