Virgin Australia - Promo Codes (ongoing)

I had an inkling that was the case but it's not very clear looking at it. Thanks, now I know.

Virgin Australia - Promo Codes (ongoing)

The calendar pricing is a weird thing. I was looking at some SYD-MEL flights for a couple of weeks' time and every day in the week said "from $130" but as soon as I clicked on a Tuesday it went to "from $229" so in what world is the $130 fare relevant? I changed it to a Wed departure and it...

Air NZ Experience - Platinum VFF

I'm trying to book SYD-NPL (New Plymouth). Can't book to NP on VA as the AKL-NPL leg does not show up (as it's not part of the code share arrangement I assume). Can book via Air NZ but when it comes to loyalty program Velocity is not an option. How does it work? I'm a WP so want to make use...

Planning Vietnam, appreciate thoughts and experiences

March was a good time for the north. We were there last year. Cool in Sapa and Hanoi and no rain anywhere during the trip. Danang was nice - warmer without being hot. HCMC and the Mekong Delta was pretty hot and humid. Cambodia (PP and SR) were blazingly hot and dry.

The one that got away [Country I Want to Visit but Can't]

I travelled a lot in 1989-91. Big misses - USSR, Czechoslovakia. Hits (that cannot be repeated): East Germany, Yugoslavia... I think there were two Yemens back then too. I was looking at the USSR but they were severely guided "Intourist" trips in those days. In hindsight I should have gone...

    Australian Cricket Season 2024-2025

Greg Healy is Alyssa's dad? In other news McSweeney has been dropped for Konstas. And yet Marsh is still in the side, even though he shows no sign of bowling? Most are saying Sweeney was hardly done by and Konstas is being thrown to the wolf (Bumrah). Webster (Slug) in for Marsh is a...

Third Test, Australia v India, Gabba

India's best spinner retiring can only be good news for Australia. Jadeja didn't do much with the ball, didn't see Sundar bowl at Perth though. SCG could be the spin-off, hopefully we are still in the series after Melbourne.

Third Test, Australia v India, Gabba

At least they can say they were batting for a declaration, with that awful scoreline. I think they knew there was no chance of a result so threw the bat and set an impossible target. Two overs in and it's probably over now.

Third Test, Australia v India, Gabba

Starc and coughmins looked exhausted by the end. Even if they'd bowled them out earlier it was looking like they didn't want to bowl again. Shows up how Mitch Marsh is a passenger in the side - if he's not scoring runs and can't bowl then they can't exactly keep him in for his great catching...

Third Test, Australia v India, Gabba

At least they have an hour's play but of course then they must take the tea interval at 1630 local time!

Third Test, Australia v India, Gabba

At least this might divert some attention from the annual Sydney bashing that comes with the rain that seems to follow the SCG Test around these past few years. Then again, that's a couple of weeks away. Everyone will have forgotten.

Long session this. Another wicket would be nice. That follow-on target isn't far off now. And with Hazlewood out I wonder if it would be enforced.

Flying when sick - where do you draw the line?

In 1992 I flew from SIN to SYD via MEL (Lufthansa). At the time I had what I thought was a simple cold but on coming into land I realised my sinuses were ready to explode with the pressure changes. My only relief was to push hard with my palm on my eyebrow where the pain was. Of course then we...

    2025 travel plans

Just got back from NZ having completed the fourth of the 10 Great Walks of New Zealand now. I started on these with the teens about nine years ago but have had a six year hiatus. Now keen to do the rest. Just did the Tongariro Northern Circuit, a four day walk. Not to be confused with the...

    Worse than feet on bulkheads

I had Mr Large Personal Space guy take the middle seat in Economy X (VA) yesterday from BNE-SYD. Not a big guy but took up a lot of space with his sharp elbows and full use of his space plus his neighbours. All bustle and flailing limbs on settling in and proceeded to slump with his elbows all...

Online checkin for Jetstar having booked through Qantas - not possible?

I booked a couple of reward seats on SYD-AKL with Jetstar (returning with QF) some months ago. Of course I used the Qantas website to do this using points. Yesterday when it came time to check in online I went to QF who directed me to Jetstar. I went through the various steps with Jetstar...

AFF Review: Icelandair 767 Economy Class (AMS-KEF)

Ah how the other half lives! Last year we flew Play Airlines from Copenhagen to KEF (Iceland). Was pretty cheap but they hit hard with baggage charges. Also they had a charge for using the overhead lockers rather than placing your bag under the seat in front. It was only there as a fee as...

Manually transfer points to Velocity in November & December 2024 for a 10% bonus

I was going to sweep some points using this 10% bonus promotion but forgot about. Just got a push notification for a deal for 15% bonus points if I do my "first ever auto-transfer". I don't think I've ever done an auto-transfer with Velocity so I guess I'll take that up.
