Is that knowledge from first hand experience or is there document/web page/FAQ/other somewhere that provides the criteria for whether PJs are supplied or not?

Just a quick piggie-back question re PJs in J. Is there a threshold where QF don't offer PJs in business? Like flight duration? Day time or night time? Or some flight numbers do and some don't? E.g QF 59 and QF26 (SYD to and from HND)

Yeah, that's the way. Book each leg separately. So long as your confident that the 2:35 layover on HKG is sufficient to catch the HKG to HEL flight. You want to leave sufficient time to collect bags at HKG, check-in for the HEL flight etc.

With the whole customer service declining over the last several years, and plethora and multitude of issues causing QF to be seen so much poorer in the public's eyes I think QF actually honouring the clear mistake in pricing - albeit in J not F - I think bodes well for the overall sentiment...

That was pretty much the scenario I had in mind. As well as a 5th point, only travelling on awards, no revenue fares. As well as the scenario mentioned up-thread (quoted here) I was only just pondering the flexibility of having separate PNRs but others have shed more light on the pros and cons.

So the gist I get from the replies so far, if flying on points, and no connecting segments then maybe there's something to be said for separate PNRs. I guess I was only thinking of the situation where there are several days between flights.

I typically book my air travel on a single PNR, working out each leg & booking online when I know each date and airport. But I find it's a hassle when you just need to change 1 element...say you quite like a city and you want to change the day you fly. Or you've booked a Y classic reward seat...

The point most of us are making is that CR to those popular destinations are rare. In your case, you got lucky! QF dropped a whole heap of CR Sunday night to various destinations (I personally have been looking for SYD - HND return in Feb/Mar next year) and plenty of CR seats became available...
