Can anyone assist with the following two queries please?

1) What does it cost to cancel a SQ award ticket? I think it's just $30 USD ("redeposit of miles" on their fee schedule), but can someone confirm?

2)What is the minimum time before the first flight in the itinerary (i.e. how close to departure) that you can cancel a SQ award ticket? I'm struggling with this one... can't find much after some Googling (and reading the KrisFlyer T&Cs).

Thanks!

Yes it is USD30 if you cancel >24hrs pre dep - if < than 24hrs pre dep add extra USD75.

Thanks for the info guys. Guess I'll have to call them re minimum cancellation timeframe (I want to push it as close to departure as possible) - will post back what I'm told for future reference.

They were easy to cancel on the website but I do recall reading somewhere that cancellations now have to be done over the phone.

You might have to factor that into your plans if you are cutting it fine.

That's correct - but only for booking made before their booking system cut-over (8 July 2012 IIRC). Bookings made after that time can still be cancelled online.

For the record, I just called SQ to get confirmation about this. The answers were:

Cancellation more than 24 hours before the departure of the first flight in the itinerary: $30 USD fee and full miles are refunded (assuming not expired).

Cancellation less than 24 hours before the departure of the first flight in the itinerary: $105 USD ($30 + $75 USD) and full miles are refunded (assuming not expired).

Cancellation after no-show for the first flight in the itinerary: $105 USD ($30 + $75 USD) and full miles are refunded (assuming not expired).

I did not ask them about mid-itinerary cancellations / no-shows. Personally I'm a little sceptical that they'd be so generous as to refund all your miles for $105 USD if you do a no-show, so I'd suggest anyone seeking to rely on this information in the future double-check it first!

This point I am having trouble with.

Prior to cut-over if you selected 'Manage Booking' and brought booking up - confirmed or waitlisted - there was a 'Cancel Booking' tab which is no longer there. I have spoken to KF and they say by rights it should be there - they will 'Feedback' that for me whatever that means.

I have 4 confirmed redemptions and several waitlists - some waitlists I want to see if they will clear and some I want to delete but cannot - pain in the cough really.

Actually, that's a good point - I also have a post-8-July booking (actually a cleared, but not ticketed, waitlist) and while it doesn't include the warning about calling to cancel (which is visible my pre-8-July bookings) I also can't see any obvious way to cancel it online. Bug in their website I guess?

ON 30TH June I received an email from SQ titled "Singapore Airlines and SilkAir Reservations System Upgrade".

I'll put the key point in bold. Still though, no reasoning offered as to why they don't have the functionality. Just that they knew it wouldn't be there after the upgrade. Was it a business decision or a functionality that just wasn't ready fro the cutover? It doesn't specifically say 'waitlists' but now looks like those are included.

Changes to KrisFlyer services from 08 July 2012

While we endeavour to minimise the changes to our current membership services, you may wish to note the following differences after we transition to the new reservations system effective from 08 July 2012:

  • Applicable fees for KrisFlyer redemption ticket changes can be paid for only with credit/debit cards; KrisFlyer miles will no longer be accepted.
  • Redemption tickets can no longer be cancelled online. Members should contact KrisFlyerMembership Services or their nearest SIA office.
  • Members who would like to make changes (other than seat and meal preferences) to their redemption bookings ticketed before 08 July 2012 are to contact KrisFlyer Membership Services or their nearest SIA office for assistance.

I guess we all missed that. How irritating (having to call them to cancel) - especially once you get into the habit of wait-listing lots of options when you can't find an available seat.

On a side note, there are definitely a bunch of gremlins in SQ's systems with regards to waitlisted flights at the moment. I waitlisted MEL-xSIN-LHR in F for two pax about a week ago. Since then:

- Waitlist cleared sometime on Sunday. No text or e-mail when it cleared, as usual.
- "Manage booking" wasn't showing a ticketing deadline so I rang SQ yesterday (Monday) morning and was advised the deadline was 30/08.
- At 10.30pm last night I get a text from SQ telling me the waitlist had cleared (first time they've ever notified me)... and that it must be ticketed by 10.30pm last night to avoid auto-cancellation - i.e. the same date/time the text was sent.
- E-mail about waitlist clearing also arrives a few minutes later, saying the ticketing deadline is 09/08.
- I check the booking this morning and it's showing as "confirmed" even though I haven't confirmed it, nor paid miles / taxes.

:?::shock:

These doesn't mean you've confirmed. It just means the seat has confirmed from waitlist.

Sorry, I wasn't descriptive enough - I didn't just mean it says "Confirmed", I meant that it presents like a ticketed booking - no radio-buttons to select confirmed flights to ticket, buttons to proceed to pay, etc.

So I assume SQ will refund all the paid airport taxes back to your credit card if you cancel the redemption ticket?

Does any one know how long does it take for them to credit back all the unused miles and airport taxes?

Thanks

the $ are refunded in full less $100.
Actually only USD30 to cancel confirmed redemption unless within 24hrs of travel - then I think it is USD100

Edit: I forgot some people do pay for flts and therefore climb that status ladder where cancellation fees are lower - 30 bucker is all I know sorry.

crowman here are relevant fees:

SQ Redeposit.JPG

* This charge will be applicable if you change/cancel your award flight less
than 24 hours before departure, or if you fail to use your confirmed reservation
(as printed on your ticket) for any reason. Ticketing charges apply on a per
ticket basis.

Many thanks Cruiser Elite. I assume the fact if I cancel my SQ redemption ticket at least 24 hours before the flight, I'll be charged USD 30 per person, and I get back the full refund of my miles and airport taxes within 30 days.

I got one major issue here.

I will be in London in early January, and currently I had a confirmed redemption ticket on A380 suites class from London to Hong Kong (for myself and my wife).

My wife wanted a more direct route to travel back to HK, so if we can find two F class tickets on cathay pacific (through Asia Miles redemption) by then, we'll take the Cathay F class tickets and thus cancel the SQ suites tickets (what a waste I know!).

So if I was to cancel my SQ tickets from London, can I do it online by logging in to my account??

Or do I have to call into a London Singapore Airlines office to cancel the ticket?

Thanks again for the help!

Almost correct - USD30 per booking not per pax

Unfortunately you beaut SQ web site will not allow cancellation of confirmed redemption online - but it can be done over phone.

We all at some time need to cancel Suite redemptions for a variety of reasons - hell I have cancelled Suite saver MEL-PVG next April so I can enjoy MU J product instead!
