☹️ seat changed at checkin

Had a similar incident recently. First time I’d flown QF economy for ages and I remembered why! Fortunately only a SYD-AKL. Both pax on the same ticket. Had checked in online and allocated A & B seats. Had an error message at the kiosk and flagged down a staff member who took over and said “oh it’s just got a note that I need to tell you your seats changed because someone just paid for the ones you had selected”. We were reallocated B seats well apart from each other.

Care factor was slim and just got a shrugged shoulder.

How can someone else select & pay for seats that have already been allocated? That sounds rather strange.

Yep. Didn’t make a lot of sense. Was a little surprised the remark even came out to be honest. Not even an attempt to come up with a decent story! Original seats were occupied (it was a full flights)

It purely comes down to incompetence, lack of care and an extreme lack of product knowledge. Probably a mistake by someone and then just handed it off saying what they said.

I wonder if it's the paid Neighbour Free seating? As in, someone paid for Neighbour Free seating and so you were kicked off?

But that doesn't really make sense since I'd expect the free seat in that case to be a middle seat, not an aisle or window.

And as this is AFF, hope she is getting some ff points/avios/miles for the trip. One of the better features of QFF ffp (are few) is the ability to move QF ff points to eligible family members (niece to aunt) at nil cost. A family member with an active ff account can "warehouse" QF ff points for inactive-infrequent travellers, until needed.
Awardwallet showed niece got 4,500 QFF points for her one way SYD-LAX. I have included her on my awardwallet account.

Jetstar did this to my flight from Melbourne to Singapore. For a seat I upgraded to for $25 preferred seat (very first row window seat in economy) and changed me to middle row to the preferred seats at the very back row. To another "preferred" peassenger or someone higher up that works for their company. And they didn't even change aircraft! And I complained and want a refund to give up my upgraded seat and the customer support person and check-in staff said they can't because the preferred seat fee is non-refundable. Such scumbags. Knowing Jetstar they'd sue me if they could but they won't because I have my boarding pass and email notification of the seat which I received versus what I got on my boarding pass. That is why I never take Jetstar because of the coughty company executive and the bogans that take it. However I still take Qantas but they won't be getting any money out of me as I am only using points from credit cards I earned during promotions efinitely won't earn a single cent of revenue from me for their coughty values and priorities that part is 100% certain.

Saga continues ... Niece is flying back home to Sydney tonight (LA time) - in 5 hours time. She said she has been trying all day in LA to check in online (yes, she did receive an email from QF that she could check in online) but could not do so 😫 The message was to check in at the airport. Not sure why she could not check in online? She is leaving Orange county for the airport soon. I keep my fingers crossed for no seat change 🙏

Or hopefully an upgrade because of her complaint!

Sometimes information isn't correctly setup online (missing APIS or passport information or something not quite right).

Usually nothing major. Other times it's because flags are set up so someone at the counter needs to visually check documents.

I keep telling myself that in 99% of the cases it has nothing to do with the FBI or the CIA or the Ausgov and they are not involved in that matter whatsoever
🤣🤣

As indicated there can be many reasons.

In any case, they'll find out when they check in. The counters should be open by now (I believe early check in for QF opens at LAX around 3pm).
