I'd be interested as well. I thought Amex was excluded from paypal as well.

I have my Amex linked to my Paypal account too, all I can think of is that when Paypal first launched in Australia they did accept it - I signed up pretty early on. I note now though that my other linked card is always set as the default funding source, I have to manually choose the Amex every time.

When PayPal first launched, there was no PayPal in Australia. It was all run out of the USA. At that time they were happy to accept Amex. However, when PayPal Australia started and all members with an Australian address were moved to PayPal Australia, they would not accept Amex to be added to the account. An existing Amex card remained active.

However, when paying a PayPal account to another PayPal Australia member, the Amex card is not available for the transaction, only Visa, Mastercard, Direct debit bank account etc. The Amex card can only be used for PayPal transaction to a PayPal member from outside Australia.

So for the purposes of this Amex promotion, PayPal is not going to be of any use since the promotion is only for spend with Amex Australian merchants, and PayPal (as opposed to PayPal Australia) is not an Amex Australian merchant.

I had the same thing. They claimed not to have my fax. However, I had the transmission doc so could prove it went through, I then spoke to someone else at Amex and they said yes they have my fax and read it to me. Lying cheating ******** !

I am waiting for them to reply to my correspondence, it was promised today....nothing yet.

If they do not comply, I will follow Vet's suggestions earlier in the piece as his body he referred to are already in discussion with Amex from memory.

I will not give in. What they are trying to do is illegal.

How do you have an Amex linked to paypal?

They only take mastercard and visa in Australia. I am jealous!

NM is, as usual, correct. I signed up in 2004 (as I noted) under the Paypal International site. I haven't used it since (presume I changed to the Australian operation). Now that I also know that not being able to pay via AMEX (as it is an Australian Supplier), looks like some crumbs to Visa then this month.

Will have to work out how to sign into it one day. Got a 3014 error, changed the cookies and gone to the help section....but still getting the same error. Oh well, their loss.

Off topic, just checked my transactions balance for the month. Will be 120 after some shopping tonight! verry nice!! lol. This promo is awesome....
How many transactions have you guys done this month. I know Lindsay said he did 60. Thats good value. I estimate 1000 points to be worth about 6 or 7 bux when you get goods for them based on RRP. Any thoughts??

All depends for me as to when the plethora of outstanding CabCharge payments turn up, and which period they get counted against

IMO, if the transaction was made inside a month then it will count towards that month no matter when it turns up online.

I'm on 20 Transactions/10,000 points. Just did my 20th transaction on Tuesday night on my way home from work at Safeway and my 10,000 points bonus for October is in my account tonight.

Wish I was on the unlimited program, but I missed the boat while the Amex website was down after I got my postcard. Either way, I'm a happy little vegemite! I should manage to get my 10k each month and a total of 30,000 points is way more than I can rack up in several years of normal spending.

I look at aussiejohn's post and think that perhaps the post 20 September people's accounts are having their bonus points post automatically as they are on a fixed earning and counting their transactions has been easier to program.

I'd think there is no certainty yet on the pre 20 September people, until Amex has checked those accounts for multiple promo's and "corrected" the bonus points. Of course, these accounts are going to be where Amex is going to get the majority of unhappy cardholders with their contentious decision to change the T&C's. This will be where the majority of their exec team will be spending their time trying to mitigate Amex's liability.

I'm up to 60 transactions plus 7 unposted. I'll make 3 tomorrow to get my 70. Then Saturday's shopping starts a clean slate for November.

Yes, I think aussiejohn is in fact the second 'capped' person to state that they have received bonus points for the current month. I remember seeing someone else say the same thing a few pages ago.

I think we will...that is if you are pre Sep 20 and uncapped.

Bottom line is for the post Sep 19 people that tey have been capped at 10K a month...and so Amex will not be concerned about even checking their tx to see if they are legit....as depending which promo they are on it is only a max of 20 tx to get the bonus..

Getting some rather strange emails and letters from them, but I suspect they are just system generated from the events that surrounded what happened.

Good news!

After a lengthy delay I received my fax today from American Express. I was extremely patient and quite well tempered (of course if it was bad news I was ready to hit the fan).

I am happy to report that I signed up on the 19th - error with system and it didn't go through but I have been put on the 5/5k and original terms and conditions (unlimited).

They never say unlimited EVER. They always say as per the original terms and conditions heh, I like that!

I still have faith in Amex
