Please know your facts before making such statements.

Having worked for Woolworths recently in a management capacity I can assure you there is a minimum spend on credit cards (Amex & Diners specifically).

We are not talking about EFTPOS or Credit Cards in general, we are discussing Amex cards, hence my statement

I have also used it many times for under $5 in Coles, Woolworths and even IGA...

If there is a minimum.... management should tell their staff to enforce.. or have the system do it for them (you would their system would be complex enough to manage that)... cause they don't enforce it with me.

As per previous, confirmed today over the phone, and had it re-verified by the Amex CSR for good measure.

file51 and lovestotravel, did you speak to Membership Rewards, or to the people that are responsible for the general customer service for the card that you have? This might explain some of the inconsistencies between what people are hearing - one department knows about a change, and others still don't, so they read out the old information.

That said, it will be interesting to see what happens. I have screen captures of everything (saved in PDF) in the event that things are changed.

Thanks - I knew I was right!

I used the self-serve checkouts once and the checkout person once as well.

So once again NO min spend at the majors on AMEX

General customer service ! But she knew the details of the cap without asking anyone else.

She was pretty damn rude and stubborn about it as well! Probably sick of all the calls today about it

Which is why I recommend calling the number shown under the promo web page - 1300 307 493.

I remember from a very long time ago when I was a student, I tried to pay a 76c carton of milk with a Visa, and Woolworths supermarket wouldn't accept it. The machine kept on declining. I paid cash for this back then).

I quite commonly do pick up one or two items at Woolworths or Coles (using the express lanes) as there are several supermarkets on the main roads of my commute between home and work. And my partner keeps on leaving me text messages around 4:30pm with "get bread" or "buy toilet paper", and I am duty bound to arrive home with them in hand - the consequences of NOT picking them up would be too much to bear!

They should maybe advertise that at the checkouts then.

Look at the results of this promotion

I bought a packet of muffins for $2.99 at Coles last month for a work morning tea

I had a look at most of the panic post saying Amex must stand by their UNLIMITED points offer otherways .....

most of them talk about how legitimate is to buy $2 items and $5 and $10 to earn 1000 points ... There is no way people can Make 1000 points by spending $2 ... have a look at TOP UP Points from Qantas and find out how much Qantas value their Points....

If it was that easy I would ask my family to take leave from work and spend every day stretchinf my Amex purchases as much as possible... It is a better bussines... I could end up with 100 Free around theworld tickets or Hotel accomodation or other rewards.... And I may not even have to buy any additional things from my ussual monthly shopping

People IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE... 40K points is already too much for those who want to make points by split shopping... It should also be limited by a minimum purchase of $50 per Item... That would keep people from trying to Ripp the promo

All you keep rabbiting on about is about Qantas etc etc and how it doesnt' make sense. Most of us are well aware at the value of the points and how you can move points to Qantas etc etc

One of the offers is/was:
Every 5 transactions gives you 5,000 bonus points
No limit to the amount of points you can earn
No min spend - Two different reps told me this
There were no other real T&Cs

AMEX could have had any number of limits around this promo, EG:
Min spend of $100 in each transaction
Max of one transaction per store per day
Limit of 20,000 or 100,000 points whatever they want

Without wanting to offend anyone, I feel that the members who are talking about: the offer should be capped, you cant expect to make 200 small purchases and get a free business class trip to LAX... etc... are concentrating on the wrong issues....

It is irrelevant what the points can be redeemed for.

The deal is simple, clear and unambiguous...

Make 5 Transactions ... get 5,000 Bonus Points, Unlimited. ..FULLSTOP...

Lets be frank... I agree that this offer is just ridiculous... it is sooooooooooo "generous"... I usually put through 80 transactions a month over the Platinum Credit and Charge Card (Well my Wife and Son do most the damage!)... by using less cash... that may stretch to say 100 per month... i will get 300,000 bonus points out of it... Seem's rediculous.. but that is the way AMEX made the offer...

Stop telling us that it must be capped just because it is sooo good... They made an offer... they aren't stupid...(??)

And if they have any brains... to cap at 40,000... We have three cars in our family... fill up 2 weekly the other fortnightly... that is 30+ transactions over the 3 months... so Amex wants me to stop spending after that???... or reduce the incentive to shop only where AMEX is offered? And the normal groceries etc.

Sorry but 40k is not too much considering that based on my previous 3 months spending I would have earned at least 135,000 points. AMEX would have known that before sending me my postcard and for them to cap me to anything less is utterly ridiculous.

Terms and Conditions

By the way... I had another read to the Offer and the example purchases shown relate to transactions that cost over $50

In the section named SEE HOW YOUR MONTHLY SPENDING CAN BRING YOU BONUS POINTS

Eg 4 x Shopping (1 per week) 4 x Petrol (1 per week) Monthly Phone Bill etc

Keep an eye on that example Cos I think the final Fix will come from that Example...:mrgreen:

Exactly right!

So what ? Have you seen the postcard sent out to people ? If not its on the very first post in this thread.

My spending pattern is nothing like that example so that is irrelavant to me and to probably most other people on here.

What about people who want to make 40K points without splitting their shopping. I had around 10 transactions today without even trying. I paid twice in DJ's - which what I normally do and I expect that to earn in line with the promotion.

I enrolled online in the 10000 points per transaction offer. By the time I read about the MYREWARD offer it was too late to register online. I called up to try to register but they will not let me change.

I am currently overseas so am not aware of which postcard (if any) that I received.

Any way to change? What about if I find out that I was sent the MYREWARD postcard? There is no condition on that postcard that says you are not allowed to enrol in that promotion if you have already enrolled in another promotion?

The Amex rep said that after the initial issues the promo was limited to anyone who had the card or who had already registered.

Re: Keep Dreaming... But dont Go crazy

I agree that AMEX was always going to have to cap this promotion from the moment they didn't limit it to those who actually got the postcards. My problem is that 40,000 points just doesn't cut it. Hence my belief that it should be limited to the number of transactions you did in the previous 3 months.

Accordingly I am going to direct my spending to other cards during this period and only do 40 instead of my usual 135 to 150.

Capping based on prior history would be self defeating for them.

Surely their objective is to INCREASE the use of the card.

Yes - stores like DJs have you purchase close to where you find the item, so if you are shopping for multiple items, then that's multiple transactions. The same thing goes for when you buy groceries and Liquor at Woolworths - they do not permit you to buy groceries from the attached liquor store checkout and vice versa - so two separate transactions from the same store appear. This looks like "bill splitting", but in reality it is not.

There are so many legitimate reasons for multiple transactions from one store on the same day or multiple days. My statement is full of stuff like the above, and I'm not trying to "bill split".
