But is it as awesome as 5,000 points for 10 transactions?

End up more or less the same, doesn't it ?
5000 for 10
or 10000 for 20 ?
I guess its better in that you get 15000 if you have 30 transactions, instead of just 10000.

Thank you AMEX!!

This is just as good as the promotion they had last year with d*** smith and a few selected retailers.

All the Qantas Amex readers, I think we can not register???

Its for Membership Rewards, and I think Qantas cards earn direct FF points.

I'm a bit confused that some people have said that they have registered their Qantas Amex cards.... I can't register my card (an express), it just loops back to my transaction page..

Is that right???

I want in on 10000 points! :p

that makes sense mate - i now remember that i couldn't use my qantas card for the ****ies bonus a while back and had to use the corp amex! ( :( my company no longer permits points linked to corp cards!)

so i'm with you - I WANT MY POINTS!!!!

I just am amazed at how good a deal this is...

Of course AMEX are trying to drum up usage on their cards...

But don't they realise it will be abused by those with a brain?

I mean this deal is crazy...

Do you think they could cancel the bonus on your account if you abuse it like this?

There might be some fair usage conditions, otherwise I will be considering paying my mobile bill $ by $ too.

Having a look at the Membership Rewards, Ascent Premium T&C's... this clause may cause problems:
"14.4 Fraud and abuse relating to the earning of points in the program or
redemption of rewards, including transfer of points to participating frequent
traveller programs, may result in forfeiture of points as well as cancellation
of the program account."

I think it should be ok if you do say $50 or $100 transactions... you can make up a reason for that... accounting/cost centre/splitting up expenses...

Any thoughts anyone?

This deal is HOT - assuming it is UNLIMITED earn as it says!!!

Thanks to the OP for the heads up! :p

Well, if that is the case, before I start abusing this bonus point program, I might transfer all my points to QFF first.

This is going to be my strategy - from now to 31 December 2008 is 105 days.

There is IMO absolutely no way I'm violating any T&C by purchasing a coffee every morning from now through to 31 December 2008.

In addition to my coffee purchase - I need to survive at lunch so I'll buy a sandwich every day thru to 31/12.

Then to wash down my sandwich, I need a Coke or a bottle of water, so I'll purchase this at another merchant. Another 105 transactions.

From these three activities, thats 315 separate transactions. ;)

Very nice! I'm already planning ways to split food shopping, petrol etc into multiple transactions through purchasing gift vouchers.

Ok - I have now signed up for both.

Also I went and looked at my Sep transactions and amazingly between 1 Sep and 14 Sep (my last statement date) I have 20 transactions.

I have my itunes account linked to my Amex and I have been buying a few $2 apps for the iPod touch as well as normal Woolies purchases.

This could be an interesting promotion :)

According to the T&C (attached to the first post), it commences Sept 10th- Dec 31st 2008.

I'm thinking this is a great way to earn some points quickly for a trip I have planned next year (really quickly, just buying what buy normally).

So here are my questions:

  • What is the lowest annual fee card with amex eligible for MR points? and do you have to pay a joining fee for membership rewards?
  • Does it matter if your a new card holder?
  • People have been talking about the qantas sweep stopping on MR - is that true - if I got a card would I be able to transfer my MR points to my QFF account?
  • Or is there a better FF program listed that I should channel points to?
My aim is to earn lots of points up to August next year and then do a RTW - this could rocket my points earnings!:p But I need to figure out if its worth joining up to anouther credit card for one promotion???

Thanks for the other promotion oz_mark.

According to the T&C (attached to the first post), it commences Sept 10th- Dec 31st 2008.
Which is not the same message given when signing up for the promotion.

Amex said:
Thank you. You are now registered for the promotion listed below

You are now registered to receive 5,000 Membership Rewards™ Bonus Points for every 10 transactions you make each month from 1 September to 31 December 2008, with no limit to the Bonus Points you can earn.

It also only works for transactions made in Australia in AUD.
That is a shame. I have 3 overseas trips scheduled before the end of year.

Why do people have to think of ways to abuse the system when a great promotion like this comes along? Abuse is part of the reason these types of promotions don't come along that often and may end up spoiling it for everyone else....

I mean this deal is crazy...

Only about as crazy as their promotion with the Woolworths group last year when many of us were buying gift cards to qualify for 10 points per dollar.
