Strange behaviour from IG. Great way to alienate potential customers. I've been buying some shares with them, but I can't risk not meeting the minimum trades (for whatever reason) each quarter, so I'll be cancelling my account as soon as I sell/transfer my shares.
Tranfered all of my shares to Wespac broking today via a broker to broker transfer as the new fee regime is about to start. Shares have been transferred within hours of the form being submitted.

That’s a timely reminder, thank you. I didn’t think of transferring them, great idea, although Westpac charge a broker fee, it’s a better option if you don’t want to sell via IG and don’t want to stay with them and pay their fee.

No fee charged for broker to broker transfer.

Another good option is Selfwealth - $9.50 flat trades (not a %), no fee for transferring in your holdings/HIN in the same name as your IG account.

AFF Referral thread - 5 free trades and 90 day trial of their Premium platform.

After IG, I've had enough of these dodgy, small time, low cost brokers that think it's OK to randomly change their operating parameters whenever they feel like it.

Bringing this back to the 10,000 Qantas points from IG, I can confirm this is still working in November 2018. Got my points in just 4 business days after my first trade.

I used BPay so there is no minimum deposit, but the minimum purchase amount is $90.

As people have mentioned earlier, you do need to sign up through the promotional URL to get the points.

First time or did you go back for another 10k?

Saw this from IG:

We're excited to announce the launch of our new Qantas share trading offer.

As an existing share trading client, we're giving you the opportunity to earn up to 5,000 Qantas Points on your share trading activity.

You must place 3, 5 or 10 share trades within one calendar month to earn the following Qantas Points on offer:

Number of share trades Qantas Points
3 1,000
5 2,500
10 5,000

$7.95 fee/trade when I was using last so would need to be careful (or lucky) to get value. Havent received an invite yet

I did a quick buy and sell with IG to get the 10,000 points (still to post though) and made a few hundred dollars so all good there.

It may have been covered previously in this thread (in which case, apologies) but I got an email from IG today regarding their quarterly subscription fee. It's essentially a $50.00 fee for inactivity.

If you've left some funds in your account with them but aren't doing much with IG, might be time to pull it out and close the account and save yourself $50.00

This was introduced last year (10,000 Bonus QFF Points for opening an IG Share trading account). Many people cancelled their accounts as a result.

I did a number of quick trades last year
Hadnt anticipated that my accountants would charge extra for doing the associated work on my tax return

I missed the boat on the first run of these, it now seems I would have to make 10 trades as a new user for a return of 10k qff. I dont have any experience with trading, could anyone give me a brief insight into how much I can expect to have to outlay in realistic terms in order to get these points ?

You had to buy some shares to get the points. Don't think there was any value on that purchase. But is this offer still available?

Trades cost a minimum of $8, so 10 x $8 is $80.

However, you also have to sell whatever you buy at a profit to ensure you don't make losses there too.

If you're not familiar with shares, I'd say this isn't worth it. And even if you are, it's pretty line ball imo, esp as the average value of those points is $100 anyway. You're paying close to that just in trade fees, assuming you don't make any losses at all on the trades. In your case, where as you say you have no experience with trading, I'd say this isn't a good way for you to gain experience...
