I'm in NSW and looked into this offer and decided that it wasn't worth it. I'm getting 7% discount off the AGL rack rate. The AGL rack rate happens to be the same as the Lumo "special rate" plus the AGL supply charge is almost half Lumo as well.

I think this offer is a bit of a con to be honest. There is no such thing as a free lunch (or flight for that matter)... you've paid for it somewhere in the supply chain.

I think you joined the wrong forum then :p:p

1. 10,000 points can be valued at $100 if you redeem them for Gift Voucher OR about $600 if redeemed for business class long-haul flights
2. 6 points per $1 spend = 6% return if spent on gift vouchers OR over a 40% return if spent on business class long-haul flights

PLUS any points you can earn by paying with Amex instead of Visa which most companies only accept which for me is another 1.5 points

So I am earning 7.5 Velocity points per $1 spent, or nearly a 50% return on my spend PLUS the $600 upfont in points

Of course if you redeem for gift vouchers the return is only around 7% and not worth it in your case. But redeeming points for gift vouchers/toasters is the worst possible way to redeem points.

As for being a "con" the T&C's are quite clear the offer is very clear so it's far from a CON

I'll take my extra 56,000 points in the first year and about 40,000 per year thereafter! Also the rates were pretty much the same as anything else I could get!

So almost a week later I am still fighting with Lumo

They really do have the worst customer service.

I decided that as part of moving house, I'd change suppliers. On the surface a good idea, but Lumo really have demostrated that the customer service is way down on the scale. They really are bad.

Indeed and this was from the Melbourne call centre... One you are with them you get the overseas call centre and they are beyond pathetic..

In the end I just called the Melbourne one and they assured me "eventually" that everything would be okay

I now have both correct welcome letters
20,000 points
Both my first bills, as Lumo arranged a special meter reading so that I'd be with them ASAP instead of waiting up to 5 months for the next bill cycles to go through!

See what happens with the full billing

Cripes. I've seen some crazy spellings of my name before, but Lumo have taken misspellings to a whole new level.

Call the Velocity number to get that fixed you do NOT want to call the overseas call centre!!!!!!!!!!

Lumo are in my area today (inner Melbourne) knocking on doors pretending to be the current energy supplier. They are using young people and (as I have observed) they just keep buzzing intercoms until someone lets them into a building. They are wearing ID tags and carry a clipboard.

I got a knock on my door (you need to be buzzed in or know the security code in our building) so I challenged why the person was even there. The Lumo rep at the door decided just to repeat the spiel that electricity prices were going up and that I needed to talk with him about it. I was busy on the phone but I found it hard to get rid of him. I just ended up closing the door.

This is appalling door-to-door sales.

Has anyone ever managed to get a bill from these jokers?

I switched over 4 months ago, had a phone call about 4 weeks ago saying "your payment is overdue and we were wondering when you are going to pay?"

I told them I'd never received a bill, they read out my address (which was correct) and said they'd send another copy of the bill. I paid the bill over the phone, as it was around about the amount I was expecting, but I still haven't received a bill!

I'm so glad that I'm getting Solar installed soon and will be switching to AGL for the $52c/kWh feed in tariff.

Since I have a Solar energy "Premium Feed-in Contract" I cannot avail myself of this offer.

(Of course, that in itself is it's own saga ... http://whrl.pl/Rc3O6E )

Just be glad you dont have to do it as a job - I cant imagine anything worse!

I have been with Lumo for about 2.5 years. Their billing in the past has been atrocious to the point that I reported them to the ombudsman. I was contacted by a manager who fixed everything up immediately. When my ensuing bills were wrong I simply emailed said person and once again he sorted it out.
My daughter uses AGL and gets a 66c/Kwh feeding tarrif not 52c/Kwh.

I half heartedly applied for this offer but never followed up. In January they rang me and asked if I wanted the offer. I said yes and the points were in my account a few days later. My only bill since the bonus points posted immediately.

I have a 3.1 Kw system and Lumo applied this offer without any mention of a limitation. They have also recently upped my feeding tarrif from 60 to 66 c/Kwh

FiTs are state based. The $0.52 is. I believe, the best on offer in Qld (which is pretty good considering the Gov't legislated guarantee is $0.44). If I recall correctly, Lumo had some very dodgy FiT wording in their contracts. Keep a keen eye on your FiT credits.

Interesting, the Velocity / Lumo special plan (called the "Lumo Velocity package") to obtain the 10K bonus is specific in that it should only relate to this plans, Feed-in not included.

As for the 60¢ that is the Vic pre-GST rate, it's 66¢ with the GST tacked on.

[h=5]Terms and Conditions[/h] *Terms and Conditions apply to new residential customers signing up to the Lumo Velocity offer on a 24 month contract. The offer of 10,000 Bonus Points is available for current Velocity Frequent Flyer Members only, and will be applied for those signing up for electricity only, or for electricity and gas accounts.

I want to change energy provider .. I can either move to Origin with a decent %age off, or top up my Velocity points with Lumo.
My main questions are about billing - how are people finding the billing accuracy now? There is plenty of negative feedback, but much of it is 1-2 years old now.

The Velocity 10k points + 6ppd offer is still going: Lumo Energy | Earn Velocity Points

It looks like Lumo also give me a source of 5% off WW Gift Cards: Advantage Online Partners | Save on 1000's of top Brands

Yes.

All I can say is watch every bill as they are frequently wrong. I now ignore the call centre and email a manager who sorts it out.

They never accepted Amex in the past so that is good.

Anyone tried Lumo? I was very keen on this until i read some mixed reports now in two minds. If it's much the same price as out current provider i see no reason not switch.

Would rather miss out on the points than deal with lumo

WARNING. CHECK THE FINE PRINT AND RATES ON ANYTHING TO DO WITH LUMO very very carefully

Sent from my iphone and AFF app :)

Good point.

I got my new Elec Bill today. Only two errors that I can workout thus far. One in my favour for $37.57 and one in their favour for $63.91. The GST does not make sense either :!:   :(

Sign up for a 24 month contract with Lumo Energy and get 10,000 points + 6 points per dollar.

Lumo Velocity Offer | Lumo Energy

Looks interesting.
For myself as a QLD'er Its a $150 cancellation fee inside the 24 month period.

I took up the offer despite what others have said about Lumo's poor service and billing issues. I'll deal with these issues if and when they arise.

The 10,000 bonus velocity points + 6 points per dollar spent + being able to pay by Amex is an offer too good to refuse!

Does anyone know if this offer applies to business electricity accounts? I forgot to ask when I spoke to Lumo today.

I haven't has a problem with their billing.

Was with Tru Energy before that, and they were certainly troublesome on the billing front.....

Re: VA points for kWhs

Thanks. Look like my decision is made. I could get my electricity at a cheaper price, but I'm also happy to buy Velocity points in this way.

Re: VA points for kWhs

Timely re-raise of this thread. I'm in the process of moving house myself. I had a long look at various providers, and Lumo is pretty much $34 *per month* more than the cheapest (which in VIC is Momentum Energy, the retail arm of Hydro Tasmania). Lumo have a minimum 24 month contract (Momentum = none), and an exit fee.

Thos 10,000 points are costing $816. That's over 8c per point!

I'd suggest research your usage you have now vs what's on offer. Energy companies these days are more obscure than mobile phone plans :(

It's not like you're getting a premium power supply or anything by paying more either:(

I'd suggest you redo those figures somewhat as there is a reasonably significant omission.

Hint - what is the total monthly spend that $34 based on? To put it another way: how much per month for Momentum (x) and how much per month for Lumo (x + $34)?
