10 hours Overland (in Training)

Apparently a full train
Yet departing Melbourne with empty seats

It’s like stepping back in time
A Novelty

Premium seats are 1-2 config

Basic seats 2-2

They raised $35,000 for charity on can recycling

No food service until 9am

We used the overland frequently in our days. But only sleeper version. Kids loved it. Me, not so much. The last time we went was when they announced Sidonee as the Olympic city. Conductor was very excited.

Moving along now
Between Geelong and Ararart

The VLine train left for Ararat via Ballarat (broad gauge) at 7.53 are 10.22

Overland (standard gauge) departs 8.05 on- time
Arr Ararat 11.33
So in theory one could switch across and have an hour in Ararats main street - idea for next time as the hills ride on the local train via Bacchus Marsh has an appeal over the sweeping lush green fields on this part of the journey

Yea my last overnighter with the car was coming back k to Adelaide in 1995

Hardly slept - something to do with a fiancé

One of my prior earlier experiences relating to the one and only time I was a dope ….

The only green leaves I like these days are Earl Grey

Gonna take a wee break next

Scenery is now kinda same same

Large green fields
With patches of gums
Or a couple of guns 💪 together

Probably back at Bordertown when we go back half an hour in time

Some would say Bob Hawkes childhood home is “back in time” symbolising timelessness of seasonal cycles in countryside Australia

One two three Kneel

In Nhill

Arvo tea
Shared scones and vanilla slices with my new friend Peter

We bolted through
Serviceton / Wolseley
Famous for being more officious than an East German border crossing
Frisking all the naughty victorians and south Aussies trying to smuggle contraband (unpaid customs duties) until 1 Jan 1901

Seems ridiculous now
