I have the pleasure of that flight at 6.50am tomorrow. Always a highlight of my travels, especially the high quality accommodation, and range of restaurants. I think McDonalds has been knocked down to 11th on Tripadvisor, Chicken Treat has gone missing and Dome is still holding down top place.

Another possibility is to take the first train from Perth to Kalgoorlie next Sunday, the 25th spend the day in Kalgoorlie and then catch the QF service back to Perth at 7 PM:

Port Hedland, the only city in the world where the 4 Seasons has been downgraded to the 1 Season on account of the weather. Port Hedland, the only place where the Michelin guide rates its restaurants in number of tyres rather than stars. I tell ya Port Hedland gets no respect, no respect at all!

I assume the flight needs to actually be taken - I can't just book and not turn up; not that I'd like to delay the flight doing this anyway? I'm in Perth so there likely aren't too many cheap flights that are cheaper than the value I'd get out of Silver, I would think.

How about this:
- book your trip to Kalgoorlie, Gero or wherever as others have discussed
- do the carbon offset on this flight and do everything else needed to unlock green tier
- if the green tier unlocks and credits land in time, cancel your flight, if not, you get the 50 credits next membership year as a head start!

For me personally every green tier activity has landed within 48 hours, I know others have had trouble but I don't see whats to lose here.

- book your trip to Kalgoorlie, Gero or wherever as others have discussed
- do the carbon offset on this flight and do everything else needed to unlock green tier
- if the green tier unlocks and credits land in time, cancel your flight, if not, you get the 50 credits next membership year as a head start!

For me personally every green tier activity has landed within 48 hours, I know others have had trouble but I don't see whats to lose here.

Unsure about Green Tier but certainly if you book a flight and don't take it you won't earn the SCs. The big issue I see with Green Tier is there a ton of hoops one needs to jump through to gain that tier (and corresponding status credits). For instance, purchasing a carbon offset for a flight, purchasing a sustainable item on the QF store, purchasing a carbon offset for your home, etc. Whereas with flying it's very simple, board the flight and that's it.

I am 10 SCs short of Silver which would be helpful for the additional luggage allowance for a flight next year!

If the main goal of this status run is the extra baggage for a trip next year, might make sense to check the maths:
A status run cost taxes, points, ground transportation, and time (depends how you value it)

Depending on the desired extra weight you wishes to have, the destination of your trip, if you need the extra weight just one way or return, buying extra baggage could be cheaper.

On domestic, Silver gives you an extra 9kg (on a single bag), but you could byu 23kg extra bag for 100$ one way (200 return) at the airport (probably cheaper if buying online)

International, the maths could favor Silver and the status run, but really depends on the circumstances of your travel and baggage requirements.

You raise a good point, although I would argue that the value of status is more than just bags. In particular, you'll get slightly better seating, priority check-in, and access to more award availability on QF which if you earn enough points to be a Points Club member can be a real boon.

Anyone reading this in the future - if you get the chance to do a carbon offset for $1-$2, do it. The rest of the Green tier can be knocked over in a matter minutes and ought to tick over in 48 to 72 hrs.

Edit: ~5230 pts + ~$1 if using mostly pts OR ~3500 pts + $16 (min) if paying for the home offset.

Yes, although you can combine the “Climate Positive Delivery” with the donation or the Offset on your Tassie weekender.

I’m yet to get the flight offset but the advice is to pay for it at the time of booking in $ not pts (and spend at least $1 - so a domestic return or longish one way sector should do). Also reported that the leaf arrives before you fly.

It's for an international flight and if I read the page correctly, that'll cost me $80 / KG which is crazy. It's not clear (to me) if that just covers the Qantas leg or the other non-Qantas legs of my flight though.
