The RBA only made it legal to surcharge credit cards, didn't they? I'm not sure you can extend that to EFTPOS.

Kept in mind I can't actually see the picture from the AFF app.

I'm not sure. But if true, then the sign posted is illegal.

That's interestiby, so are retailers who offer discounts for cash, also acting illegally? There should be no difference between cash and EFTPOS, credit yes I can understand....

Don't think discounts for cash are illegal, but if they average out to 9.09%, the ATO might be interested :-)

The card schemes used to have a rule that prevented retailers from surcharging. The RBA made them remove that rule from their agrrements.

I don't know if EFTPOS ever had that rule to begin with,

Well when some coffee shops are trying to charge you an extra 50 cents i now am getting 50 cents off due to my brand new Seniors card,;)

When we had our shop we just built the MSF in as a cost of doing business.
Just like you would build in cost of goods, delivery time, preparation time, shop rental, cost of labour, electricity etc etc. Why should a charge imposed by a bank be any different?

I have no doubt what so ever that surcharges are a sure way for businesses to profit and put the blame on someone else.

The coffee costs $5.50.... not $5.00 + $0.50 surcharge....
