I got my Gold FF this year after a few long-haul Biz flights. I need another 350 credits by Christmas this year to make it to platinum. I won't make it to 1400 points but have several QF trips booked for next year including a trip to LA. What are chances of asking for (and getting) an upgrade to WP if I ask nicely around Christmas? :-|

Qantas aren't noted for their generosity in giving such an upgrade, so I would say that the chances of getting it are pretty slim.

QF are not known to comp a status when you are short of attaining it, only when you might be short retaining it, you might want to have a look at some JASA flights to get there. The long flights next year mean as a WP you will get some good points as part of the 100% bonus that may well pay for the cost of the JASAs you did.

I would think seriously about trying to get to WP through JASA's if you do have international travel next year.

The F check in and lounges are well worth it...as are the additional points.

Thanks everyone. But I'd have to do the JASA before December 31? The credits wouldn't apply until the actual flight was completed I'm guessing.

Whereabouts are you based, a JASA is not a big time soak or points soak for 350 SCs, there is a separate thread on good value ones however CBR-SYD-HBA return for 32000 points and $120 or so would get you 200 SCs. Another thing to look at is any flights between now and then that can have a routing change to earn more SC's.

I fly out of Melbourne. I was thinking Queensland at Christmas with the family. That might be an option.

The SC’s apply for the time the flight leaves, not when it arrives. So a flight on 31/12/2010 at 23:59 would count to your qualification, even if it landed in the new year, but a flight at 1/1/2011 at 00:01 (I guess 00:00 too) would not count.

Cool. Thanks for that. I gues I should be finding this out all myself but the fast-tracking is great. If I got four award tix in J, would all four tix go towards SC, or is it just my own ticket. Promise that's the last question....

You only get the SCs for our own seat, no one else's, if you fly out of Melbourne then this sort of trip will give you 340 SCs and require one night away:

Cheers. I think I'll have to cool my heels on the upgrade.:(

Wow that is unreal. Thamks so much for doing that. I'll reinvestigate.

Um, shouldn't the CBR-CBR connect should be invalid as it's under 50min? (from memory, all QF DOM-DOM transfers required 50min MCT)

I'd hazard a guess that the aircraft is ops for both those flights, so an exception might be available?

It depends on the airport and the carrier.

I believe 30 minutes is the MCT for CBR QF Dom to QF Dom.

FWIW, if the online booking tools permits it on the one booking then you are protected.

Keep in mind that you will earn 10000 points on that itinerary as well, so that brings the cost down, it you want to go direct MEL-CBR and spread the run over two days with two trips to CBR rather than going via SYD to MEL that will save $$$.

Sounds good. Fair bit of taxes/charges with all this, but I guess a full year of platinum is worth it. Although I don't rate my chances of an upgrade with the family on QF93 in the new year.:p

The charges are high because travel ex MEL to CBR is via SYD which is 40K as a JASA, and these have been substituted for cash + points rather than the full 128K.

If you get a red e deal to CBR (10 SC and $100 each way) and then do two returns CBR-HBA over two days it will cost 64000 points + around $100 or 80K in total and give you 420 SC. As mentioned factor in the 10K earned + more than likely you will get the 5K loyalty bonus as well, so 50K of points + $100 + the two flight to CBR in Y ($200) and your Plat.
