Sadly not. Not sure if possibly you could say do a LHR-DOH-MEL-CBR multi trip, and then do the MEL-CBR portion into the future. I did that once with a QF LAX-JFK QF flight

Interesting timing in respect to Qatar hosting the soccer World Cup in November. They are pulling some routes because they’re concentrating on countries that have qualified for the World Cup. Australia has but I wouldn’t of thought that would require extra scheduling.

No. MEL-CBR and vice versa don't appear standalone in the GDS at all.

Just read the article. Interesting, indeed. Someday, Q-Suites, hopefully.

Also, the article i think made a mistake on the outbound flight number. Instead of QR989, the article says QF989.

Here’s how the daily Canberra-Melbourne schedule shapes up from October 1:

QF989 will depart Canberra at 2.30pm, reaching Melbourne at 3.45pm; it’ll then continue onto Doha at 5.15pm, arriving into Qatar Airways’ hub at 11.50pm the same day, to connect to flights spearing out to Europe, the UK, South Africa, India and pretty much the rest of the globe.

The QR988 return leg depart Doha at 1.30am, lands in Melbourne at 11.05pm, makes a red-eye departure for Canberra at 12.35am and arrives into the national capital at 1.50am.

Subsidised by Victoria’s Glorious Leader.
(Strategic agreement)

I wonder if the crew fly right through? Or perhaps a new crew from the day before who operate it as a 2 day trip etc.

Horrible timing for the flight back to AU. I would have thought a morning departure from DOH arriving into MEL early morning would be more sensible.

What lounges would be open at that time for pax in MEL?

I'd think the QF would ... QF lounge opening hours policy is 1 hour before the first departure and 30 minutes before the last departure ... so the I'd assume the QF lounge will close at 0005, 30 mins before the 0035 departure to CBR

Those policy hours only (of late at least) apply to QF metal flights

Just booked MEL-DOH-ATH-DOH-MEL on points for October on these new services.
Very happy... except... the payment transaction failed, no indication given when I submitted, no errors. Gave me seats and booking reference etc.
Email received from QF 10 minutes later asking to call them.
Have now been on the call 50 minutes after a 20 minute wait (total 70 minutes), 3 different cards tried by the agent. No go. "System error" at her end.
All my CC's have ample funds available.
No luck so far. Just going around in circles. so frustrating. I just want to pay!

Qantas is showing some award availability exDOH to CBR. Taxes are ridiculous! None showing on Alaska Airlines (yet🤞).

Exciting day for us Behrens!
I made 3 bookings with QF points incorporating these new services:
1. MEL>DOH>ATH Taxes, fees etc. $666.22
2. ATH>DOH>MEL Taxes, fees etc. $1325 (after GBP conversion) - These are booked via the UK "site".
3. MEL>DOH>ATH>DOH>MEL $1292.88

Needles to say I cancelled 1 and 2.

The Articles i have read all mention Qsuites on the CBR to DOH flights but when i plug it into the qatar website it doesnt show as Qsuite, thoughts?
