Looks like the usual May transfer bonus to Velocity is on. No Flybuys this time by the looks of it.

Email received:

Something exciting is landing soon

xx_, get your Points balance ready to slide into holiday mode.

Keep an eye on your inbox for an offer landing in May - your next holiday with Velocity Points is just around the corner.

Email links to 15% bonus Velocity Points

According to the page metadata: "Transfer your reward points from participating partners to Velocity between 1 May and 31 May 2023 and receive minimum 15% bonus Velocity Points. Min. points transfer, exclusions & T&Cs apply*."

Is that by invite only? Anything I can do to start receiving those offers? Roughly how often do they run?

It's usually a general offer open to all. Only one of the four Velocity accounts in our family got the email for some reason, despite all accounts being opted in to receive everything email marketing wise... I assume it will be more widely publicised from Monday when the offer starts.

Oh, and Point Hacks has a list of previous offers. May has been a regular over the last couple of years: Transfer CommBank Award Points to Velocity for a 15% bonus - Point Hacks

Thanks for the heads up!

It’s good timing since I should have bonus points from a credit card signup arriving that month. I hope the 15% will apply to those too.

Hummm, I got this email :

Bagpuss, your exclusive Velocity offer has landed
Your Velocity Points earning credit card provides you with fantastic membership benefits and as a valued member, here's another one just for you:

Make a Virgin Australia flight booking using Velocity Points by 15 June 2023, and fly by 15 September 2023. Once you’ve flown, we will give you back either 20% or 15% of the Velocity Points you redeemed on your flight booking. The percentage of Points you will receive depends on your Velocity Points earning credit card provider.*

I also received this targeted offer and it applies to Any Seat redemption bookings as well!

OK, but I have three cards that earn Velocity points, so how are they going to figure out my percentage?

Edit: two fall under the 20% banner

I would assume it would be based on the card with the highest percentage. Though to be sure probably make any payment using the highest percentage.

Yeah, I got this one too. Targeted to accounts who have recently earned VFF points from cards that auto-earn/auto-transfer, I presume.

"Limited to 1 flight redemption booking per member" and VA-metal redemptions only:

The following bookings are not eligible to meet the criteria for the Points offer: (i) redemption bookings made on Virgin Australia’s partner airline network (marketed or operated by the partner) or on Virgin Australia’s codeshare network (marketed by Virgin Australia and operated by Virgin Australia's codeshare partners), (ii) domestic flights flown as part of an International Long Haul journey, or (iii) any UpgradeMe Points flight bookings.

If my maths is correct it is a *slightly* higher bonus rate than the standard 15% offer, isn't it, being a percentage refund off a larger number, rather than a percentage added to a smaller number. For example, 15% refund on a 10,000 point redemption is 1,500 points = 8,500 net cost for the redemption, vs transferring 8,500 points only getting you 1,275 additional points with a 15% transfer bonus.

But with the limited date range for booking and the exclusion of partner redemptions, it's a no from me.

Is there anything that needs to be done in order to get the 15% bonus? I'm with Citi. Just do the regular transfer and they'll show up?

Remembering that domestic multi city booking would be a single "flight redemption booking"

Correct

Thanks! Might be a silly question, but is there a delay on the bonus points or do they appear alongside the standard points straight away?

Normally alongside the standard points. You'll see an extra line with the bonus points.

The FAQs also includes ANZ for 5% bonus but is not mentioned elsewhere. I wonder whether this is correct?

Be cautious about just pulling the trigger on transferring points - my son just received this 'Choose your Bonus' email...

I had decided to wait a couple of days - and maybe that was a good idea!
