Some young relatives are flying ADL-KUL-LHR this weekend and apparently have a 11 hour stopover in KL - not sure who their travel agent is but wouldn't go back to them - any suggestions for where to stay close to airport - they get in about 10pm and leave about 9 or 10 am on Sunday morning

The airport is pretty far out. I'm sure there are hotels, but one option might be to catch the KLIA Express train to KL Sentral (about $12 each way, clean, under 30min) and stay at a hotel there - Hilton, Le Meridien and aLoft (where I am now) are all there.

Not sure what young is (15? 30?), but if they're looking for a place to have a drink, aLoft here seems to have a few bars, DJs/bands etc... Or the main part of the city is a short cab ride away.

Cheers,
- Martin.

Thanks - they are 30 - that's young in my world

The Pan Pacific KLIA is attached to the main terminal, decent hotel, clean and everything you need for an overnight stopover.

It might be a bit quick to blame the TA, often the airlines will open availability on the AU-Asia sectors when married (meaning you can't separate them) with the less popular daytime Asia-UK services, so could well have just been a case of it being the only way to get the cheaper seats they were after.

Hopefully a TA might know that the Sama Sama is actually the former Pan Pacific :)

I wasn't even aware it had changed names, though it's been so long since I've booked it I'm not surprised I didn't know

I have the unfair advantage of having been there recently :)

Always interesting to see how former hotels still seem to bookable on the net despite a change in management, AKA the Sheraton Subang.

If you are going to city, go to klia website there have special price when you booked online for 3 tic and above.

Another option to consider for a one night stopover is staying at Putrajaya or Cuberjaya. They are a lot closer to the airport than KL proper. Sometimes on weekends and at off peak times of the year you can get some very cheap rates even for 5 star hotels.

Problem is those take longer to get to and cost more than the KLIA express!

You can take the KLIA Transit Train (which shares the same tracks with KLIA Ekspres) from KLIA to Putrajaya which is only a thirteen minute ride. A few of the hotels are walking distance from the station. It is quite a lot cheaper and faster than taking the KLIA Express all the way to KL.

Even a taxi from KLIA to Putrajaya is about 35 minutes. From what I recall the taxi fare from KLIA to Putrajaya would about the same as the tickets for two adult tickets on the KLIA Ekspres.

Good point, for some reason I thought it would no be running at that time of night! Not sure how cheap you could get it to, given Aloft is sub $100 already, Hilton is showing more than that as is the Shang Ri La.
