I have a 105cm wheelie (light and cheap brand, still going strong) its about 46cm long, which I use with an Antler Litestream Garment Bag for DJ or the rare QF trip.

JQ allow only one item, not the two for domestic, I've not been confident to try it on and arrive with both wheelie and suitbag as I usually travel economy. However with JQ I can use (looking soon for one) a bigger wheelie with 115cm total dimension being the requirement, so can go up to around a 54cm long wheelie. (same as for International Carry-On).

I was thinking of getting the slightly larger wheelie as an alternate and also because JQ allow 10kg in the overhead.

QF allow one of the 115s if you've got one in the overhead according to their website, would I get away with it on Virgin if I rocked up with my 115 and suitpack?

I've noticed Virgin are very very cough about cabin bags. A 105cm domestic cabin bag (the roller type) is tiny and virtually useless, however Virgin stop me everytime I have my 115cm Intl cabin bag and make me check it. Status and class of travel seems to make no difference.

I haven't been stopped yet using my Intl cabin bag on Qantas, although according to another thread, they're getting very strict on it now too.

 I can travel for a week with one! :p

I have not pushed DJ/VA's carry on allowance, I take a 105 cm wheeled case and a small laptop bag. I'd be interested to see how others go too.

Good effort! You're doing better than me! By the time I put in jeans, a shirt or two and shoes, I'm totally out of room.

My problem is usually not space but weight!

Were you on a carry-on only fare and if so, did you have to pay to check the 115 wheelie or was it just they put it below with you signing the "limited release" docket?

No, I'm Virgin Platinum so can check luggage regardless of fare type. I was also booked in J. It was taken from me at the checkin counter and tagged as a checked bag usually is.

I have carried my Antler Aeon Air larger size carryon (presume it's 115cm) on DJ repeatedly with no problems.

I ended up picking up a soft duffle without wheels, its slightly over 105 but being a duffle, it makes it easier to push it? Anyway empty its about 500gram, compared to 2.5~3kg for most cabin wheelies.

I've taken my 115cm wheelie on DJ several times without issue. I'm sure one day, I'm gonna get caught....

My new soft duffle is 37 litre of volume. My "small item" which fitted under the JQ seats, is an ultralight overnight bag which is almost 30 litre capacity..........note that JQ has a limit of 1 main carry-on piece+small item except for J passengers who get the 115+suitpack. I figured that for longer trips, the soft duffle lets me fit more in without going over if they weigh it. I just grab a trolley in arrivals if a bit tired and pop it there and the overnight bag in the basket.

Found they usually don't weigh a womans bag so use the overnight bag as my handbag as it doesn't have dividers so more flexible to arrange stuff.

Have been on a flight once from LST-SYD where it was busy and they offered to stow my wheelie even though it took the checked items total over the paid allowance (JQ), since I had other stowed items as I'd been hiking, I allowed them to stow my wheelie....this was at bag drop counter.
