12 hour layover in Changi - which hotel to pick?

Hello,

I'll have 12 hours in Changi during a BNE-SIN-JFK journey in early June.

The flight from BNE (SQ 266) arrives 12:10am, connection (SQ24) departs at12:10pm, so I've got exactly 12 hours and want to sleep before the 18 hour flight to NY.

Which airside hotel should I pick? I think I depart Terminal 3 - should I pick the one in that terminal (Ambassador Transit Hotel)? Are there cheaper, more capsule-style options in the airport?

Grateful for ideas, advice, and suggestions (on this or related subjects).

Also, what lounge will I expect in Singapore, and what lounge in Brisbane? (VA Gold; the BNE-SIN-JFK itinerary is a Velocity reward in business).

Thank you,

SBD

But even the rates that @RooFlyer quoted for the Crowne Plaza (SGD 260 for 6 hours) is crazy for me. I'd only pay that if I was very, very, very run down and in desperate need of a place away from it all

Crazy for me too, and I'm looking at alternatives! But I couldn't do lounge for that long a layover nor do I want to spend a day outside the airport precinct (ie around the city/island) - done it too many times.

Find something.

You said you had a 9 hour daytime transit. Not sure how much sleep is important to you.

Frankly, sometimes the quietest places to go to are some far flung gates (especially in T2), or even some far flung areas on the arrivals floors. Not exactly private (nor set up for working), but so there.

I found this, perhaps some ideas: 7 of the best places to work at the public areas in Changi Airport

I can confirm that at around 6 am the Jewel is pretty much asleep. They even turn off most of the lights. Nothing really happens until the sun starts to rise and maybe the first few shops with breakfast start to open.

The way I'd play it is after disembarking at 0010h, maybe head to the SilverKris Lounge for a night cap. Then head to one of the airport properties. Haven't tried the airside properties but at this point you just want 6 hours honest sleep, so as long as it's clean... yeah...

The creme de la creme for layover hotels is the Crowne Plaza Changi T3. Rooms are very comfortable and the breakfast buffet is very impressive (I hope they haven't changed since I last visited). And of course the full suite of luxury hotel mod cons - gym, pool and club lounge.

I guess I have a different view on transiting options in SIN, because while there are many good (and clean!) options for transiting at Changi, IME they are, and have all been, very expensive. Some of you are on the company dime or put a high price on your sleep, and I respect that. But even the rates that @RooFlyer quoted for the Crowne Plaza (SGD 260 for 6 hours) is crazy for me. I'd only pay that if I was very, very, very run down and in desperate need of a place away from it all (or if I had money to burn).

Personally, I'd take a chance and rough it in the SilverKris lounge, with a brisk terminal walk after some kip to wake up. After all, whatever can't be taken as sleep in SIN could be made up on the SIN-JFK flight, as it is incredibly long. Yeah, yeah... you can all call me crazy now...

Since your entire itinerary is in Business Class, you'll have access to:
  • In Brisbane, you will have access to the SilverKris lounge there.
  • In Singapore, you will have access to the SilverKris lounges (T2 or T3, your flight departs from the latter and is larger, so going to the T2 one is only for a laugh or to alleviate boredom) or the KrisFlyer Gold lounge (no real need, it is inferior to the SilverKris lounge, so again only for a laugh)
Thank you - this is a shrewd and helpful analysis. SBD

We have been offered a small sleep room each in either the First Class lounge or The Private Room when we have arrived from Los Angeles in the middle of the night.Getting a 4 hour snooze has been nice.TPR is often closed by the time our LAX to SIN arrives and we tend to fly on around 9.30am to Perth.

My recollection is Jewel is fairly dead at 6am, in fact I think most shops won’t open til 10am…. I guess that gives an hour or so before going back inside.
Jewel is open but all shops are shut say after midnight. There are limited food options available in T2 landside.

That's incredibly fortunate and kind of them. I have definitely valued the TPR sleeping rooms (probably should count my blessings that I've been able to get one each time I've gone there, including being able to "overnight" in one whilst TPR has been officially closed), but I can't imagine trying it on if I wasn't flying First.
