Well, it is actually 14,998,583 points required for one-way J MNL-HKG-SYD. Not including taxes and surcharges.

I was just helping StuUser to see how many points it costs for J ASA on another thread, then I saw this! This is truly madness! Who has 15 million points in their sleeve!

At this particular point you would be most pleased to have PLAN B and go ahead and shake the dust off it.
There are other programs to be used when you are facing the million plus point spend for so little.

Would that be a gremlin in the system?

When Any Seat Awards were first announced it was not uncommon to find that some Any Seat Awards required large amounts of QFF points but they have come back to reasonable levels recently.

At least it's an obvious gremlin.
What's more of a worry is if there are still not-so-obvious gremlins in the system. The kind that are not obvious enough to know it's wrong.

Yes and very small amounts! 10 points MEL-LST anybody?! :)

I'm finding heaps of good deals ATM compared to classic. Not as good as that 10 pointer though.

yes some good deals to be had, I scored a F SIN_MEL for 100,000 pts which when I get points back will be the same as an award ticket but I get the 180 SC...

Obscenely priced ASAs are just that - it's not really for you to purchase, but rather it's QF's subtle hint to you that if you really want this seat for points, you'd better bend over.

In other words, try another payment method.

As a QF nb I have done quite a few random searches for various ways to use JASA to Europe in March/April 2011, return April/May 2011 & certainly haven't stumbled onto any bargains:eek:

I picked up a JASA SIN-FRA for March/APril next year for the minimum amount 2 or 3 weeks ago. As a gold I assume that I get more options. When I booked my flight the only J option from Aust to FRA were via Perth. There was also more availability from SIN to FRA.
I'd suggest check for flights from SIN as there the limitation seems to be from Aust to SIN. I'd also suggest considering FRA as it isn't as popular as london.

I'm rather keen on the thought that if there are bad gremlins out there there may also be a few good gremlins :!:  ;)

good point there do you as a GOLD get more options???

I'm not sure, ISTR comments around here that suggest status gives more award availability. Maybe only for Platinum, then.

Which would be even better for a bronze person to look for flights from SIN.

Well done Medhead on the JASA at regular numbers. How many tickets?

Only one ticket.
I think it was flashing at me that there was less than 5 seats left, and really digging into my memory I think it would offer a maximum of 3 tickets on the flights I ended up booking. It did take me about a month to lock in dates and book so there were a lot of dummy bookings. In the end I ended up having to fly on a Monday as Sunday availability disappeared (at a decent points cost)

Europe is so much harder than LAX.
I have been able to get out and back even to NYC and back but I read all the struggles for Europe in this forum.
It is great news to read success in your post.

I thought it was only for Platinum but have been corrected on that by Dave Noble in the past. I cannot find the reference just at the moment.

Managed to snag 1 JASA at classic pts cost, and 1 Y+ classic award, both on QF 1 SYD-LHR in early July earlier this week. What a drama to get it all researched, booked and ticketed... but got there eventually.

LHR-SYD availability was much better - but taxes are triple, and the one-way or return flight cost is much cheaper ex LHR, so no brainer to look for the award the other way around. Also took 3 days for the JASA to be ticketed, after 3 calls to QF to check on it as I was getting angsty.

There was also much better availability SIN-LHR than SYD-LHR too.

Tip - The Y+ seat had to be bought as a classic as we want to add an infant onto it at a later date - doing so on an ASA will mean that QF calculate the cost of the infant at 10% of the $$ cost of the fare. Didn't fancy that compared to free +taxes on a classic award, even with the points and SC earn. So the new addition will be riding in Y+ on their first international flight, not J. How will they cope!

Once you let your children and partner get into J in a period of sheer madness you create a monster that only millions of points burning can fix.
A decade on you will be making and using points so quickly........
Thank goodness a lot of JASA deals are done at fair rates now.
