1hr15min transit time in DXB from QF9 -is this enough time?

What are the odds of making this connection? (should I give up hope of lounge time?)
What time do the gates typically close for EK flights at DXB?
If I don’t make the connection what would EK offer? Would they make me wait 24hrs for the next EK flight or would they book with someone else?

It depends what concourse the EK flight is out of. If it is from A, and QF9 is on time, such a connection is doable. If QF9 is more then 10-15 mins late or the CPH flight is not from concourse A, no chance.

I would never risk a 1hr 15min transit (even on domestic) unless it was offered by the airline as a connection on a through ticket. It doesn't take much for it all to go pear shaped and then then you are up the creek without a paddle.

No. Many A380 flights depart from concourse B as well. There's no guarantees on whether it'll depart from concourse A or B.

If it's not on the same ticket, it's quite a risky connection.

QF only operates from A. EK can operate from A, B or C. Every other airline at DXB are in the process of a phased move from C to D.

QF9/10 is the QF long haul route most likely to be delayed. It has a very short turnaround in MEL between flights and goes through 2 very busy and congested airports.
It is possible that QF9 departs MEL on time, then gets stuck in an ATC hold over DXB for 30 minutes and you then miss the connection.

While a 75 minute connection is valid as far as the computers say, it isn't something I would risk at an airport like DXB at that time of the morning.
I would try to go via SYD on QF1 or on one of the EK operated ex MEL flights (EK405/QF8405 via SIN or EK407/QF8407) which would give you 3-4 hours in DXB.

Thanks all, both flights are on the one ticket. I think the QF9 delays are infamous, so will prepare myself for the possibility of missing the connection.

I still wonder however, what QF/EK will offer as an alternative if I miss the flight?

As EK151 is the only DXB-CPH EK flight, they'll rebook you to the next day and you'll be in DXB for 24 hours. They'll likely give you a hotel room for the day.

Proactively ask to be involuntarily rerouted via say LHR then onto SK/BA. They have plenty of flights via LHR so there's more options. EK do interline with both SK/BA so it's possible.

Both EK and QF have full interline agreements with SK and BA so no it doesn't really matter. It's more a question of whether the person at DXB at the desk is willing to approve it. If it's QF ticket stock that could involve a call to QF to reissue as an involuntary reroute. If it's EK ticket stock they'll be able to deal with it right then and there.

The time is ok if everything absolutely goes to plan but any delay or issues and you have a problem. As others have said, QFs on time performance on this route is not encouraging.

Yes. I have had multiple mishandled baggage experiences in DXB. EK standard practice would be to put you on the next day's flight, they don't make an absolute commitment about accommodation, although I think they'd find you a hotel room. See

Not just QF9, any incoming flight has a reasonable chance of being put in a hold for a while by DXB ATC. My last half dozen flights in, its been the exception to fly straight in.
