[1Million+points?!?] Can someone shed some light on this QFF issue?

If you book award seats via assistance (ie, phone) a decent TA can add future bookings (revenue/award) at will.

Even if that's in advance of the c. 353 days ahead? I think a little elaboration is needed.

Thanks all, you will be pleased to know I snapped up my one way fairs to Amsterdam through classic flight rewards and was able to get an Emirates flight via Dubai - so I am cheering!

We plan to fly back via either Athens, Greece or Larnaca, Cyprus - unfortunately I can't seem to do that through Qantas' online system so this one might have to be a call to them to organise!

Thanks for everyone's tips though.. amazingly helpful!

Only new to the Qantas side of things and like the OP I'd made the same assumption until recently.

The qantas flights are quite hard to find, but I was surprised at the availability on the partners. If I'm not in a rush, going HKG to LAX with Cathay in business or first doesn't seem too bad (more points obviously).
