I'd be spewing if I had to change dates after the sale had finished after picking up such a great deal!

Expensive....

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? It says it is available ex LHR and I click through to book but all it is giving me is two normal fares for the dates i want (and they fall within the range of dates available).

what am i doing wrong?

Re: QF 2 for 1 sale

This is a very new style of promotion for QF. .

Not quite. This is say reallya 1.5 to 1...rather than 2 for one after considering the extra charges the extra person pays.

I remember taking advantage of a similar deal on QF to fly to LAX about 15 years ago....

And also flew to Fiji once with QF where it was one free child for each adult which was, considering there was from memory at that time NO extra taxes or fuel levies added on, a good deal.

The dates of the sale ex London appear to be Mid April though to mid June. I have just tried a LHR-SYD return departing LHR on 11 May and returning from SYD on 25 May and it priced at £976 for 2 people. That looks like a 2 for 1 special to me unless a normal LHR-SYD return is less than £500!

Depends on how you look at it. I am going to SE Asia again in March and as someone I know said they were interested in coming along I thought it would be a good idea. So I tried 2 people return ticket SYD-SIN and it priced at ~$1580 for both. I advised the other person and they are now not interested so I looked at airfare for 1 person and it priced at ~$1500 for same dates.

In some ways it is a silly sale as it looks like my normal SIN-SYD return airfare has increased. I hope it is only for the duration of this promotion but from what I have seen some of the flights I wanted are sold out already....

My central point was that very cheap deals like this based upon 2 flying rather than one are not new to QANTAS.

Good to see airfares to the States back down around the $1500 all inc mark. We'll be seeing a bit more of this over the next few months. You know when times are tough when Qantas goes under 1.5k to the USA and Jetstar does $299's to HNL and $349's to Bali, mainstream and not super-douper specials.

Having been involved in the industry since 90, the airfare cycle is coming full circle. (1991 - 92 peak season Yee1y fares to UK on Qantas were $3200 - then recession, dollar and more competition) Y class airfares have hit their peak and will be coming down over the next 6 months. I'm expecting $13 - $1400 Low / Shoulder to LAX and $22 - $2300 on QF to UK (peak) - you can actually get close to that now with the earlybirds.

The 2 for 1 deals are pretty good offers (except for NZ). I've seen QF / BA do this at least twice over the last 10 years. Both times usually signalled a downturn in business and cheaper airfares.

Please don't take my comments the wrong way. I was not criticising your comments but rather praising the sale and not QF in particular. I just wish that occasionally airlines in general looked after single travellers as well couples or duos. It is a joke that a second person can travel for an extra ~$80....

What would make it really fair is is singles could use there second flight at a later date, sure then people would argue that they only want one return flight but atleast those like John and I who would love 2 flights would be happy.
(Some friends of mine have just made good use of the sale though, perfect timming for them)

Thought for the day without actually reading the T&C's cuold you buy 2 tickets for youself, since you buy a second seat you dont usually pay taxes would that mean you could really have 2 seats for the price of one ?

What flights are these available on (MEL-LAX)? Looking at March 13th next year. Are they available on the A380?

Certainly pushing it-lots of QF young women handing out flyers for this sale when deplaning in ADL today.
A sign of the times.Hopefully a lot more such sales ahead.
Unfortunately the 2 for 1 in J BNE-JFK is still dearer than the JAL companion fare and virtually identical to the AA special.

Not if they continue with the 2 for 1 specials and exclude single travellers. I have noticed my airfares have become more expensive since they sell all the cheap booking classes and in one case the whole flight is now sold out which means I may need to connect via woop woop again if I want to travel on those dates....

I was looking for fares to London, and could easily get the ex MEL $3035 for two up.

But as these were through fares with no stopovers and they appear to book into O class there's no point upgrades available.

By using the Multi booking I was able to get stopovers in HKG each way for another ~$150 each (~$3380 total).

Just went to book with Air China & found out the taxes were ~$1100 per ticket (advertised at FROM $562), so now going with Qantas direct to LA. You can't win them all.

You mean you even considered taking Air China ???

The airfares MEL-YVR were only $1149 booking into Q so 1/2 points in *alliance. Would have been with them if the taxes weren't so disgraceful. They have a few things going for them - new A330 with 18" wide 34" seat pitch & AVOD in WHY.

Will just have to suffer in QF WHY for 14+ hours both ways. However the 2 for 1 price will ease the pain a little. Also burnt a few UA ff points to get +1 & me from LAX to YVR for ~US$80 total.
