Another quick tip for LAX arrivals - no matter how short your connection is, don't use the express customs line unless you have the orange card. They'll just send you the back of the regular line.
They may be open to negotiation, but I learned a long time ago that you don't argue with customs.

My partner took 80 minutes on Wednesday to get through immigration and less than 10 minutes to get a bag and exit to the street. She made it to the line up off the QF A380 quickly as she was second off the plane. There seem to be less immigration officers now than ever!
