Correct my if I'm wrong but it seem that having just obtained Platinum and travelling with my wife and our 1 year old daughter, we will be unable to access nearly all overseas partner lounges as there is more than 2 of us.

Wouldn't it have been better for me to aquire Gold for myself then give the points to my wife so she could also aquire Gold. We would then be able to access partner lounges for 4 people?

Im already 300SC towards renewing Platinum and wish I'd given those 300SC to my wife.

ahhhh well I guess I'm just going to have to sacrifice Platinum for Gold just so we can all use the lounge together.

No not as yet, but I'm thinking ahead after reading some threads and the information posted below

I think you may be having an anxiety attack. 1 year olds are not classified as people (probably because they have no control over their bodily functions!). Chill out and enjoy your time in the lounge.

Those SCs aren't lost :)

Remember: You can gift your partner platinum or gold to your partner.

Platinum members who earn an additional 500 Status Credits over and above the required number of Status Credits to maintain Platinum within their member benefit period, can gift Gold membership to a companion of their choice.

This phrase seems to be open to interpretation. (Some folk have been able to gift Platinum when they hit 1800-2000 SCs - so you *might* be 200 SCs off being able to gift Gold.)

With the soft landings from platinum through gold, I plan to try to max out my partner one year and myself the next. Seems to get the most bang for your buck.

I've travelled with my family and have never been turned away from a lounge with my partner and infant. Staff have been pleasant and welcoming.
In Jan completed trip to Japan with 2 kids and all ok access to lounges.

Sounds like a very good strategy.

Depending on the airline, isn't 2 & up a person for seat & lounge purposes?

The emphasis is on the "Depending on the airline", see the "Child access guide" at the bottom of https://www.virginaustralia.com/au/en/experience/at-the-airport/international-lounge-access/

Thanks for making me look, though. I didn't know about the Delta "Immediate family" rule. That's a handy one.

One thing I found out about DL lounges is 'no outside food'.

The other week in ATL we attempted to take in some food we purchased from the food court and was advised "sorry guys you can't bring food in from outside".

Never seen that in any AA lounge nor AS. They lock you in to the cough overpriced lounge options as opposed to the cough overpriced outside-of-lounge options ;)

Wow. I'd heard about AA drink chits, but I had no idea charging for stuff was common practice in the US. Is it like that elsewhere in the world? Is the all-inclusive lounge just an ANZ/Oceania thing?

That also really sucks for those of us that generally cannot eat what they provide in the lounges.

The lounges in the US are different - many have just been for paid lounge memberships - no free drinks for them either. The rest of the world is more sensible ;)

The US is the exception. Everything is free in every lounge I've been in Europe and Asia. And even in lounges in the US run by non-US airlines, eg QF or BA.

... although most USA lounges now offer basic (AKA 'well') drink on a complimentary basis.

Chits in AC's are still good for the 'better' drinks.
