$200 "Dining credit" towards a list of Global Restaurants

Used my credit at sake bar and restaurant in Sydney on 12/12/22 still haven’t received my credit.

Noticed it went through as “Adyen Australia Pty Ltd” and had a chat with amex and they said it was a “third party payment processor” they are now investigating. Pretty annoying

This wouldnt happen to be at Sake at The Rocks?

I went there in December 2021 and used my Amex to pay to use the $200 dining credit. When i made the booking i had to pay a $203 deposit. When i dined that night i paid the bill which was ~$320. I assumed the $203 deposit would be refunded later but i later learned they are supposed to deduct the deposit from the bill. I did receive my dining credit but they overcharged me $203. I got an email from them the next day asking me to fill in a customer feedback form which i did and told them what happened. No response. I found another email address for the restaurant. Sent them the story. No response. Tried calling them multiple times, they never answered. After that i thought fk it i have wasted enough of my time. Spoke to Amex and sent them an email with all the details and did a chargeback. Problem solved.

Fk that restaurant.

Yep. Sake at The Rocks. Damn that sounds annoying as heck.

Yeah not sure why they’ve charged using a “3rd party payment processor” now that I look at it again it says QR PAY ??

i think that's what happens when you pay at your table when you scan the menu and pay using the QR code there. Different if you paid at the restaurant's EFTPOS terminal

Merivale Online Wine Store is listed on Domestic Fine Dining $200 Credit - website says you cna buy from online store but link lead to their mainpage for winestores. tried calling merical Winestores and after repeated attempts due to hangups, timeouts/no answers eby Merivale group finally got through and was told Merivale does NOT sell wine online, nor has it done so for some time! So how did Merivale end up on Amex Fine Dining Credit webpage? Seems even Amex are going down the tube - the new voice recognition doesnt work whe ncalling Platinum line, nor does manually entering their number. Yet i can call United Airlines and American Airlines and their phone voice recognition always work perfectly and alway has even with out Ozzie accents
Thought I'd provide an update regarding Merivale Bottle Shop that still appears as a participant in the Amex Dining Credit benefit. Merivale sent an email last month promoting the sale of champagne online which I jumped on. All paid with my Amex and delivered in a few days - but no sign of the Amex credit a week later so I went into online chat to ask what the hold up was. They tried to tell me it wasn't eligible because it was an online purchase and the T&Cs state that the benefit is "only available for dine in services", however, my argument was their website clearly states the Merivale offer is "Online Only" - we had a stalemate and so he logged a case and told me to check back a week later.
A week later I online chat again to get an update and am told the same story, online purchases are ineligible and again I insist their website says otherwise. After a bit of to-and-fro they agree to resubmit an investigation and I'm asked to upload proof of purchase.
I let another week go by and online chat again to get the result of the investigation and am again told all of the above all over again and so am recommended to call the number on the back of my card - which I really should have done right from the start...
I got through to a very helpful agent who could see exactly what I was talking about. They had me on hold for a while and then came back to say they'll manually credit my account the required amount in 3-5 days. Very happy with the outcome!

Glad you got yours sorted mick.
I had contacted AMEX about Merivale and Simon Johnson a couple of times to confirm if they qualify. Both times the agent said "Buy it and find out".
Mentioned that doesn't sound like a great idea, the reason I'm asking you is I don't want the hassle of not being credited and then I'd essentially have wasted $200+ on stuff I probably wouldn't have purchased if it weren't for the credit.
Agent's excuse was 'it doesn't exactly specify on the T+Cs, so I don't know'. Find out for crying out loud!

I eventually bit the bullet and ordered via Simon Johnson due to the same issue with Merivale not offering online ordering. Ended up getting credited about a week later.

If I'm reading you right, you got your Amex credit automatically with Simon Johnson? If so, great result! At least with the link Amex provide for SJ, it does go to a working site that you can actually order online - with Merivale, I relied on a link that was sent by them via email - using the Amex link gets you nowhere useful. I'll think twice about going for a Merivale credit again, although the champers deal was too good to pass up! ;)

Question about using the overseas dining credit, if I spend less than the $200 does the foreign currency conversion junk fee come out of the statement credit or is it charged on top?
For example, if I spend the equivalent of AU$100 would the statement credit I get back be $103 or $100 statement credit plus a $3 charge?

When I used my overseas credit in Singapore last year the foreign currency charge was not reimbursed.

No. Just the dining credit. Transaction fees are not included.

Can confirm that it works with SJ GC purchase (in person at least), took 3 days to get out of pending, I guess it's useful if in the last week you haven't spent it.

Dined at Viand Sydney a couple of weeks ago and did not get the 200 credit yet. After asking some questions about POS machine vs online, dine-in vs takeaway etc., Amex says that the restaurant "did not present the charge as eligible" and they will investigate for up to 14 business days and credit "if found eligible". My Amex statement correctly shows the charge under the restaurant name and suburb. I will wait for the 14 days and then try my luck with AFCA if it credit does not arrive till then. Probably will not be renewing the card this year after the way this is being handled as I am some kind of thief.

Total noob question here: If i am travelling solo and spend < $200 at a restaurant does the leftover credit remain to be used on a future booking?

We haven't spent less, but I wouldn't believe so.

Yes, if you spend $50 you will get $50 statement credit and will still have $150 available.

Towards the end of last year we spent $100 twice at two restaurants and received $100 statement credit twice.

Thanks! I kinda assumed it was the case but couldn't see it clearly anywhere.

Another data point for "yes": In both 2022 and 2023 I spent the $200 domestic credit over multiple solo meals for myself, each one incrementally rebated within a few days up to the $200 annual total.
