But it is also time to think ahead. Many more milestone celebrations to come. But finding wines that will last 50-70 years can be a problem.I have invested in vintage ports.Pretty well quaranteed to last. Was well worth it when a friend turned 70 a few years ago and I was able to produce a wine from his birth year.Helped that we both love our ports.

I wouldn't recommend buying wine on auctions. As someone who bought and sold wine online I can tell you there is absolutely ZERO quality control when buying from auction so you may pay big bucks and end up drinking vinegar that wasn't stored properly.

I'd say that's a blanket statement from someone who had a bad experience once.

I buy wine at auction all the time and have been for many years. I have had two bottles out of a few hundred that have been out of condition due to storage issues. In my opinion it is worth the risk to access wines not available at retails and/or at a price well below retail. I rarely buy from retailers these days.

Back in the late 70s wine auctions were popular but mainly for the "in"wines. We went to one and mrsdrron was intent on bidding.I kept her hand down until a lot came on that no one wanted to bid on.It was described as a South Australian shiraz with no label. It was a case of 6.She bought the case for $5 a bottle. There was a typewritten note in the box-Hardy's 1942 shiraz for the cellar of James Hardy.None were off.
