But it needs to be considered because with an increase in spend the money has to come from somewhere. I just don’t see the quality of the relationship between increased spend and improved service in reality. A good philosophy but it doesn’t seem to translate in practice. Money gets spent in areas that don’t achieve the desired result

Certainly and spend is always at the call of the government of the day. My comment was that the if money for improved services (and assuming that the money went there) came from increased taxation some people would not oppose it as they see a benefit for society from the extra tax. It's all hypothetical really.
I'm well and truly over the election - we've been in election mode for months now. Hopefully after the 18th whichever party is in power will be able to govern.

Increasing taxation - how about starting with removing exceptions and raising the GST to 15%. Seems to be a fair and equitable way of going about things. IMO

The other options just appear to be flogging the 60% of horses still running. Continue to flog hard and dumb, that 60% number will decline.

In my hypothetical i do consider increases in GST as a tax increase, not just income or company tax, or other direct or indirect forms.

I’m pretty much behaving myself this time. Amazing what escaping overseas for the actual day does for the spirit. It’s called denial. I’m not a fan of either side this time, very much a perceived lesser of the evils. I’ve set in place some safety nets. Helps a little come what may. Oh, that was clever of me.

I walked past the local EVC this morning (where I voted earlier this week).

It was packed, there were queues to get into the car park and then into the actual building. Still, it will ease the queues on the actual day next week .
