Someone drawing a superannuation pension is not a pensioner ?

nearly all the 'science' that gets reported and quoted back and forth are models/modeled results .. and anytime you have a model, you have (selected) model inputs and assumptions.
I need to save this for later/other threads, I fully agree :)

Whoa, AEC has now put Lilley back in the close seats bracket..

Maybe we need a cultural revolution then... Get rid of all the scientists, teachers, medical practitioners ..

Under 1000 votes.. but I suspect no chance of it closing with what is left

Someone drawing a superannuation pension is not a pensioner ?

The term pensioner has been used very loosely. Pensioner in the Australian context refers to OAPs receiving a payment from the Australian Govt DHS.

Self Funded Retirees are retired persons drawing a non DHS payment not funded by the Aust Govt. They too are often loosely referred to as pensioners so most people don't know of their different self funded status.

Maybe Billy and co didn't know either, or just chose to ignore the differentiation as they lumped these 'pensioners' in with the OAPs, hoping they wouldn't notice that a vote for billy meant losing their ICs that along the dividends paid to them are a vital part of supplementing their SFR drawings.
A man on Q&A on Monday said he stood to lose 20% of his income if he lost his ICs.

So no, someone drawing a superannuation pension is not a pensioner.

I have also posted the Lancet article showing deaths at different temperatures and whether you live in Bangkok or Stockholm you are more likely to die if the temperature is below normal than above normal. So just how is it going to kill us all?

Again - who has said it is going to?

One night of bias viewing makes a lick of difference in the history of Q & A or the ABC for that matter. Have plenty of examples but I would have to write a book, maybe an encyclopaedia after last Saturday’s shifty shortens exit. It would take some lateral vision not tunnel vision to read it. Oh just wondering who was it again who has formed a MAJORITY government.

So you've got nothing ... why am I totally unsurprised.

Sounds like you drank the Lib's Kool-Aid :). Pensioners and part-pensioners were always going to be exempt from the franking credits abolition.
Sources of pension can be: Government, corporate or Superannuation. Retired self funded retirees mostly have a pension sources backed by Super or other investments. If super it is legally called “ Allocated pension”

The interesting aspect of this is that government sourced pensions are backed not by income producing assets but by recurring taxation of taxpayers. It appears it’s ok to keep taxing current taxpayers while according to ALP it’s not ok if it’s a refund of franking credits.

Nope. That makes you rich apparently.

According to Flannery, Adelaide was going to have run out of water, quite some years ago.

A self funded retiree, though certainly not necessarily rich. My super fund is in retirement account phase providing income payments (an income stream). It’s not referred to as a pension. :)

Part of the problem with the terms pension or pensioner is that many of the ‘ordinary folk’ out there only see pensions as a government payment and don’t realise there are other sources. :)

True. But the policy was that only Government pensioners would avoid the dividend imputations issue.

Only one of those articles has anything suggesting the world is going to end in 2030 - the Bob Geldof one. Even then, he's simply stating it's a possibility, which is technically correct, and I'm sure even he would agree the probability of that is so low we can ignore it.

To state the obvious, what those articles are saying is that if we don't seriously curb our greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, it's probably too late. This isn't the same thing as saying we're all going to die in 12 years.

I know many here don't think there's anything to worry about (you might be surprised to know that I hope you're right), but I hope you'd accept that there's a chance the scientists and models are right, and you're going to run out of ways to raise doubts at some point.

As for the number of deaths caused by climate change - if you cherry pick the deaths you're going to count (floods, extreme heat etc), of course you can show declining deaths, and I don't think anyone's suggested the effects of climate change have become particularly bad yet, even if it's measurable.
