It was so touching hearing her father almost not being able to speak. Jessica hid her emotions pretty well at the time, but Richard said she was shattered after not winning gold in the kayak, which we can appreciate. Good on her today. A great, great effort!

Would I be a sook if I cry every time I see one of these fantastic young athletes win a medal representing our country? Medal ceremonies have me running rivers of tears
Not at all. Cry away!

Yes Matilda's was a great match - good to get the 2nd goal to tie it up in normal match time.

In other good news, I think a Gold Medal is almost guaranteed in the Men's Laser (Sailing). Australia's Matt Wearn has accumulated enough points to not be overtaken in the gold medal position. Just needs to finish the 'medal' race (without incident like a disqualification) on Sunday.

Heartbreaking for Opals, foul call at 0.6 seconds left to preclude extra time. I don't think the whole Liz Cambage drama has been good for this team.

Super Aussie Gold Medal rush - Australia's best day for gold medals in Olympic History

Today:
Emma McKeon - women's 50m freestyle
Women's 4 x 100 medley relay
Logan Martin - men's BMX freestyle (cycling - first non-water gold medal this Games)
Matthew Wearn - men's laser (sailing)

Tonight Australia has a medal contender Rohan Browning in the men's 100m sprint (athletics) - well at least Australia will likely have someone to cheer for in a race dominated in recent history by other countries.

Have Japan airlines being flying athletes back to Darwin? I caught the ‘NES’ over the wing and the unicef logo by the rear door, when they were showing the rowing team returning today.

Obviously better for the athletes in any class but a poor show from Qantas.

Just heard Logan Martin, the BMX gold medallist interviewed. Pretty impressive - broke the stereotype I had in mind :)

Agree, he is articulate and tells a funny story about his parents naming him after his birth city (and indeed the name of his birth hospital).

Emma Mckeon is a legend.
First female swimmer and second woman in any sport to win 7 medals in the one Olympics.
Most medals in Olympics of any Australian swimmer.
Most medals in one Olympics of any Australian.
Joins Ian Thorpe as the most gold medals won by any Australian swimmer.
The most gold medals of any Australian swimmer in one Olympics

Golds for the high jump decided on a hand shake and a hug. Awesome!

Who could blame them? But there is no collusion - they just happened to make and miss the exact same jumps so the countback system was identical. This should happen more often whenever he situation arises. More golds the merrier.
