Booked Sydney around 4am this morning for NYE. Picked up nice seats on A330s both ways with QF points.

Note that although there are fireworks this year, unless you have a confirmed resturant booking or are staying at a hotel with a view, you cant just go into the city to watch them. The public are not allowed to line the foreshore per most years, it will be closed off to stop mass gatehrings, and invitation only for essential workers to Opera House, Circular Quay and Luna Park.

There will be checkpoints on roads coming into the CBD and at railway stations, if you cant prove you have a reservation at a venue, you wont be allowed to wander the city.

With the current SA situation our SYD plans have had to be cancelled.

NSW never closed to SA

I can inform you that @cove has no need to worry about transport or fighting the general populace - or anyone else - for a front-row view of the SYD cracker night... ;)

Yes we were rotating between London and Sydney and Sydney wins this year.

There is hope to get one last trip in, hopefully will spend the time after Christmas and stay to see the new year in, in Bolzano as our flights from late November were put on ice when BA cancelled them. Just need to confirm Italy still does a free test on arrival that then means we are good to go assuming a negative result. I can deal with the 2 weeks self isolation on return.

Well ..... it's a bust. We can get into Italy and there's a free CV-19 test we can do at the airport, but there's movement restrictions unless you're there for work purposes or returning home etc. so instead we've booked a London staycation (again) to squeeze the last little drop out of the AMEX Hilton offer and Hilton Honors double night credits and double points.

We'll be seeing out 2020 on the Gold Coast. Looking forward to some relaxing and swimming.

Flights booked for Jan, QLD here I come. Cant wait !
(2020 has been the first year of no flights at all for me)

The international departure ban (for all but 'the approved') from Oz has been extended for a further three months to March 2021.

We're not even allowed to visit nations that have handled COVID-19 well, like Taiwan.

Nothing in life is risk free. This is bureaucrats being totally risk-averse.

supposed to be flying to Philippines, Japan and Canada this Friday to have a white Christmas/NY. The plan now is to drive down the NSW coast and pretend the white sand is snow..

Well more about limiting arrivals, if you travel and return you need a hotel quarntine spot, and these are still in high demand for Aussies who left ages ago.

2020 flights that didnt happen:
March SYD-MEL-SYD on QF Y for Work Team Day
April SYD-ADL-SYD on QF Y for AFF Rockfords Wine Tour
June SYD-HKG on CX J + HKG-DXB on EK J + DXB-CPH on EK J to tour Denamrk, Norway, Sweden, Finalnd, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania
July VNO-HEL on AY Y + HEL-DOH on QR J + DOH-SIN on QR J + SIN-SYD on QF J.
August SYD-CNS-SYD on QF Y for Port Douglas long Weekend

2020 Flights that did:
September SYD-BNK-SYD on QF Y
December SYD-CBR-SYD on QF Y

So thats a wrap on 202 travel for me a measly 2 domestic return flights and total flying time just over 4 hours! Here is hoping 2021 looks much much better

We've got 3 trips to Tassie booked still to complete
1 trip to VIC (combined with one of the Tassie trips)
1 trip to ADL

Busy finish to the year!

We have family spread out all over Australia so very thankful all the borders have been removed (well apart from SA/WA).

Checking my emails and thoughtfully a reminder pops up about my Emirates flight to Dubai departing at 1.20am. Scored First Class, would've been first time for me, then business to LA for the Rose Bowl, followed by a Panama Canal cruise.
One Day.
