2024 F1 Thread

Late watching the race again because of Gold Coast V8's.

Interesting race, some action and overtakes...legal or not. The stewards are onto it now so hopefully the stupidity will die down.

TSU banzai move at the start escaped attention in all the other mess.

PER has gotta go.

Love the photo bombing of the team pictures at the end.

Hah yes Zac bombing the Ferrari team photo first then payback from Carlos. Great stuff!

Perez being asked if it would be his last home race and his reply "zero chance, I'll be back next year". I understand it's the game but I find it almost cringeworthy that whenever Sergio is questioned about his form, poor qualifying, lack of pace etc he always says "we had an issue", "we weren't fast enough", "we need more pace", etc however Max doesn't have the same issues in the same car.

Lawson fighting Sergio and coming out on top was the nail in his coffin IMO.

To be fair to Checo, it's very common for drivers to talk about "we" (i.e. in reference to the driver + the team) and Max was also lamenting RBR's lack of car pace during the post-race interviews and suggested it was similarly impacting Checo. Regardless, as I said up thread, I don't see how Red Bull can carry Checo into 2025.

2025 is going to be a fascinating season to see unfold. Who do you think is spreading these PIA to RB BS rumors

If 2025 starts like this one is finishing, it'll be awesome.

I think wiley ol' Helmut is the sole source of any Oscar to RBR rumours...always trying to stoke any embers of unrest, even if they don't exist

I was thinking it might be the drink company itself.
Horny would love that coup and neatly ties up the Checo issue

SNAP! Meant for @DejaBrew and not my own post

The more appropriate question is “could anyone actually buy tickets for MEL GP 25??”

Know so many people who struck out trying to buy full weekend passes :(
Understood

Apart from my venture into hospitality suite world — daughter and I had got ballot code for day before general sale
I was 75 in Q when it started
I got her two tix in Brabham for Sunday high up on aisle - as my ability to buy came up first
I did not want to go Sunday
Spoke to lots of pax who had presale but still could not buy anything and stuck with ground passes.

Yes agreed it's common, in fact all drivers use "we" when referring to the whole team. However other drivers accept some responsibility for various performance issues when they happen but generally Sergio doesn't, it always seems to be something else. I'm not talking about this weekend alone, it's been going on since he joined RBR.

"I" won, but "WE" lost...

If PER stays at Red Bull I hope Horner gets a lot more coin out of Carlos Slim, to make up for losing the Constructors. It's the only reason they havent fired him. And the fact that VER doesnt want anyone as good as him as a teamate...or else they would have hired SAI and fired PER a few months back. Just like McLaren did with PIA and RIC.

They let VER have his way and he could win the Championship by himself with the old car, now its much closer and they need a proper second driver.

Pretty much anybody in the field, except STR would be better than PER.

Pappa STR would probably drive better than PER

Anyone going to be in Melbourne for GP 25?
Unfortunately not. I had started my application to volunteer (for my first F1 race) but waited too long to decide on my role preferences. Will probably try to volunteer next year?

I am planning to go again to the Shanghai F1. Watching closely for tickets. It's close enough to a family trip in early April so will hang around the region post-race.

On a separate note, the local fan backlash against LAW after the last race is a little funny.

Being reported in a number of sources that Mexican Billionaire Carlos Slim ( a long standing backer of PER ) is withdrawing his company’s sponsorship of Red Bull.
Surely this can only mean PER is out and (imo) replaced by LAW.

Interesting.... Slim still wants to continue sponsorship of Checo, so that could potentially turn him into a "pay" driver which would still make him semi-appealing to Red Bull (i.e. reduce their out of pocket cost of running him in one of the cars).

Not read about Slim withdrawing...he should and sponsor somebody else.
PER been a pay driver for the last 3 years IMHO...

He should wander off to commentator land on Mexican TV.
