I wonder what the record is for the greatest number of cars to start a race from the pit lane?
Oh dear... the look on those Williams engineers' faces… and again..
Well if Quali is indicative of the race to come, then we're in for a helluva Grand Prix!!
Wham Bam Thankyou …For those that are going to watch the replay........ set aside some extra time What a fun start!
I mean ....... I bet no one expected the result to look quite like that. Absolute class, especially those first few laps. Lots of penalties dealt with after the race to go alongside quite a few dished out throughout. Well done to Alpine also for a solid performance in the wet, as well as getting away without having to do a single pit stop for the whole race for either car. Jumped them from 9th to 6th in the constructor's championship, too which is worth about $50m if they can hang onto it. McLaren certainly messed up on their strategy for the pit stop, as did Mercedes.Wham Bam Thankyou …
I don't think there's much luck involved though with gaining so many places on the first few laps, definitely some VER in the wet of old, there.Wet races you can get unlucky or lucky.
Don't think many examples where we've seen a VSC SC and Red in such quick succession.
Stewards are making it up as they go now lolNOR and RUS have escaped a penalty for the aborted start. They were both fined €5000 instead. No further action for TSU or LAW their similar infringement.
Mercedes were also fined for changing the tyre pressures whilst the wheels were attached to the car
Well, the FIA I think - but yes. Silly. VER might be able to wrap up the championship at the next race, but more likely to be done in Qatar.Stewards are making it up as they go now lol
5 sec, 10sec, a little fine….who knows….
Hopefully we see PIA Melbourne 2025Well, the FIA I think - but yes. Silly. VER might be able to wrap up the championship at the next race, but more likely to be done in Qatar.
So @JessicaTam will have seen a PIA P1 result, plus VER clinching the title. I saw VER clinch the title in QR last year, albeit it was far earlier (and hotter!) in the season.
I believe GAS was heading to the start finish line and had to dive into the pits at the last minute to park.An up and down weekend for most teams between the races and qualis.
Pretty much the same guys hit the wall in quali and the race.
PER misses his box by a metre 5 sec penalty, NOR and others chuck a whole extra lap and get a fine of a few bucks??? Mercedes caught on film breaching the tyre rules, just a fine. They really gotta have at least the same stewards all year and ONE rule book.
I think its the first time I've seen both Alpines not crash into each other....wonder if they had to ask for directions to the podium??

My view is that unlike other penalties, none of them who confusingly left the start ip under aborted start did it to or gain an advantage so no race penalty should have applied. Monetary fine for breaking the technical rules was appropriate if a penalty was decided.I believe GAS was heading to the start finish line and had to dive into the pits at the last minute to park.
So yes, I guess they did need directions.

PER, while in error, still gained an advantage by being outside the box on a start so potentially gained a race advantage on others.
Mercedes did it to gain an advantage so should have been more penalised.
