2024 F1 Thread

My view is that unlike other penalties, none of them who confusingly left the start ip under aborted start did it to or gain an advantage so no race penalty should have applied. Monetary fine for breaking the technical rules was appropriate if a penalty was decided.

PER, while in error, still gained an advantage by being outside the box on a start so potentially gained a race advantage on others.

Mercedes did it to gain an advantage so should have been more penalised.
My reply was in response to @jastel wondering if they needed directions to the podium.

Hulkenberg and Bortoletto signed to Sauber/ Audi for 2025/26.

Farewell Bottas and Zhou Gaunyu.
McLaren releasing Bortoletto who was one of their juniors.

Also probably means Chinese demand for Shanghai 2025 drops off for whenever they release tickets. @patrickw

Finally got to watching the replay off the Brazil race. Cracking race and let's be honest, that was an imperious drive from VER. Very happy for the Alpine crew - proof as ever that wet conditions are the great leveller. Borderline agreement with the fine for Mercedes - after all, they successfully argued their case - and I think the decision to fine/reprimand NOR and RUS was fair enough, although I do think that all drivers who didn't follow procedure should have received the same fine/reprimand.

Roll on Vegas!

F1 race director Niels Wittich has resigned effective immediately. Wittich replaced Massi after the Abu Dhabi debacle in 2022, and his short tenure is said to be because of disagreements with FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayman.

Since the controversial Ben Sulayman took over a number of senior FIA figures have resigned.
The replacement RD is Rui Marques,
( previously the race director for Formula 2 & 3)

Yes, well, nothing to do with F1 is cheap. Other than my McLaren (Piastri) t-shirt I got, when McLaren weren't doing so well. That was cheap. £22.
