2024 F1 Thread

How much longer before Ben Sulayem’s position is deemed as untenable?
Yet another one resigns …. Paolo Basarri is the FIA compliance officer and the official who “coincidentally” compiled a report into allegations that Ben Sulayem interfered in the operations of two races during the 2023 season.

BTW Ben Sulayen he’s up for re-election next year.

less happy I am committed to mother-in-law bday celebration 4pm-7pm, locked in in advance and I didn't realise it clashed with the civilised-time Vegas F1 (was there in person last year) 🤦‍♂️
Approx. 3:30pm November 24th...

Agree
It was a good race but some ??? decisions.
Like watching a video game with all that gaudy trashy advertising and blobbo the advertising clown inside the track popping up with driver profiles
Well done VER (even though not a fave of mine)
Better luck next time papayas

Next season will be a cracker, hopefully, with 4 teams going at it from the start.
Another decent race at Vegas I thought.
Strange Lando and George only got a fine for their Aborted Start shenanigans in Brazil, Oscar cops 5 seconds for a couple of centremetres "transgression", no advantage gained

2 races to go, c'mon #81 papaya

Anyone know why Sainz didn’t get reported or penalised for crossing the pit lane entrance line in his aborted pitting ?

Ted Kravitz has revealed that he spoke to Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur about the incident and the reasoning he was given by the FIA for the decision not to have resulted in a penalty.

He explained: "Sainz didn't get a penalty for crossing the line on the way into the pit lane because, but Vasseur explained it that the race director treated it as a track limits infraction, not contravening any rule or any race direction notes.

"Carlos Sainz would have said, 'Thank you very much', because it meant he was on the podium and not Charles Leclerc."

Additionally, an automatic time penalty for crossing the white line of the pit entry line isn't mandated in F1 rules. It can be added as a race director's instruction before each race, though it wasn't included in the notes before the Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend.

One wonders what the previous now sacked Race Director would have done! :)

Based on the past, there would be an automatic penalty, you cant just swerve in and out of pit lane, not a drama in this case but other tracks are tighter.

I heard what Ted said...they will probably talk about it for next race...more likely new race director trying to be nice. Also they painted a Blue Line at pit entry as nobody could see the white line.

What are the thoughts on the Limo ride at the end....OK a nice backdrop but wasted 25 minutes driving them 2km for interviews and then back to get trophy.

Or Martin refusing to interview Jenny McCarthy when he couldnt find anybody else.

Confirmation this morning that GM has gained the approval of Liberty Media to become the Eleventh team on the grid in 2026.
Marketed as Cadillac, they will initially use a customer engine till their own is ready ( probably 2028 )
An AU $700m dilution fee will be divided amongst the existing teams.
