2024 F1 Thread

And the other person with experience F2 race director Janette Tan also got sacked last week.

So FIA is quickly running out of options with experience.

Just finished watching the Qatar dummy Spitting Championships.
Always good when they throw their toys out of the pram.

RUS going fast, got VER fined for driving slow.
VER driving slow, got NOR fined for driving fast.
PIA overtakes 2 cars in the pits.
MAG takes out 2 cars at first corner.
ALO turns the pit lane into 2 lanes.
OCO quit.
STR should quit.
HAM wants to quit.
PER should quit but wont.
ZHO gets Driver of Day

Whole Sky Team sobbing in their warm beer that all Brits were hard done by.

Waiting 4 laps to call the Safety Car was stupid, someone will always gain and others will lose...its unpredictable and it should be called when the incident occurs.
Also did nobody tell BOT the mirror was there?

From two of us who were there, that is an excellent summary.

After sacking the previous race director (maybe due to following rules for VER penalties), the new race director completed botched it with the mirror on the track. Incomprehensible why not easily safety car to clear it rather than the chaos it caused.
And that could have significant financial consequences too.
Given Ferrari and McLaren are battling for the constructors championship, Sainz’s puncture and Norris’s penalty will cost whichever team comes second US $10 million in lost prize money.

Ricardo in the new Cadillac team?
They need more that rookie drivers
He has sponsorship lurv and a fanbase (especially in the states)…
That would be nice…… imo they’ll want a US driver alongside an experienced F1 driver.

Jak Crawford or Juan Manuel Correa are both racing in F2. Not sure RIC’s (by then) 2 year sabbatical will do him any favours.

Pato O Ward and Colton Herta keep getting thrown up by Sky.

Maybe they will wait until its all done in a year or two and then

Put in Marco Andretti just to spite the FIA...lol

Herta still needs 9 points for super license.
So would need to finish 4th or better in Indy 2025, or also fit in another series.

Palau has the points but he's Spanish (and as does Kiwi Scott McLaughlin).. And Mexican O'Ward just qualified in 2023.

If Crawford hangs onto 5th in F2 this year, think he'd only need 5th or better in 2025 to get his license.

6 or 7 newbies in FP1 and nobody crashed....that's an achievement!

HAM better get same penalty as VER last week....

HUL gets 3 place penalty for overtaking wombats parked in the tunnel.
This drive slowly or stop in the pit lane cough has got to end.

RUS and HAM get nothing for impeding the exact same way VER did last week.
A few drivers had laps deleted for track limits, then AFTER someone watched a replay they were reinstated in some case and not others, yes there was varying degrees of "exceeding".
SKY refuses to drop VER and RUS argument...who cares. Politicians do worse in Parliament every day of the week.

LEC 10 place penalty for battery swap is about the only thing they got right.

Should be interesting to see what else they can stuff up during the race to make it controversial.
That seems to be their only goal at the moment, keep people talking about F1.

Pleased that Maclaren won constructors but VER was so dirty in that opening lap taking out PIA… anyone note that during his victory speech there was NO mention of PIA by Lando- poor form

Yes a good race, nothing too contentious, most penalties deserved.
LEC very good...and lucky...drive from the back.
LAW wheel not coming off penalty was in the same class as NOR yellow flag...the book says this penalty...doesnt matter how minor it is.

On a separate note can someone buy SKY a mirror...Danica left half her dress in the car door and Rosberg showed up in his pajamas.

Any chance you have a trip report in the works? I am contemplating a visit for the grand prix next year and would love to hear about your experience.
Not really.

We flew up on Friday and back on Monday with QR using points. We stayed at the Embassy Suites which was very convenient to the yellow metro line. The shuttle connection to the track was excellent from the Lusail metro station, although the walk was some distance from where we were dropped to the track itself.
