The Paris Olympics start this week, with the opening ceremony on Friday 26 July.

Anyone looking forward to it and if so, which competitions will you be looking to follow?

Is anyone going to the Games?

Maybe

Depends on the “Olympic Effect”

Will people In Europe keep flying or will there be a stay home effect meaning planes and vacant hotel rooms are hard to fill ?

When I last looked airfares in the second week were fair and hotel pricing had come down from their ridiculous highs it was still Around double normal times instead of the quadruple / tenfold

Once the swimming and athletics programs are over, people leave town.

A few events before the opening ceremony.
First Australian participation is the Mens Rugby Sevens on late Wed evening (11pm AEST).

And the majority of key events aren't at a great time for us. Watching a breakfast catch-up probably going to be the best.

Interesting. The basketball medal games are on in week 2, which would be good to watch.

I will be following along. Our neighbours son plays for the Hockey Kookaburras, so an added interest for us.
But I also love following along many more events.
And I loove Paris ! 🩷

Interested in most events but the time issue means I'll just catch up after the event.

Mstrandye1 played state beach volleyball with one of the Aus indoor volleyball squad so we will be looking out for that.
(along with athletics, 7s and anything Aussie or Team GB)

May show some interest in medal tally if time permits or I remember to check.

Go Greece, Thailand and Australia....

Always enjoy watching the sports that are not habitually watched every year. Looking forward to Stan’s coverage and being able to watch the sport I want on demand.

Oh, I thought I missed the entire thing so I get a chance to catch the rock climbing, I really enjoyed watching it last olympics.

We're also huge fans of the wheelchair rugby in the para games.

Any word on the split of events between 9 (and its streaming product) and Stan? Presumably Stan will some exclusive stuff to attract subscribers?

Not clear afaik. Stan is ad free obviously.
For the pre-events (Sevens, Football, Handball) seems Nine has covered most either online or streaming.

Although I will say that Nines interface (at least on my newish Samsung TV) is pretty horrible with only four tiles visible at a time

I have family in Paris so I seriously considered popping over using points if the timing were right...

... unfortunately, the timing is not quite right.

I'm sure that everyone will eventually come to see that the Paris Organising Committee made a massive blunder by not timing the Games to coincide with Australian school holidays. #whatweretheythinking

Re Stan

Watch every moment, every medal of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 live and free on Channel 9 and 9Now. Plus, every event ad-free and in 4K on Stan Sport.

Having volunteered for Sydney 2000 and Melbourne Comm Games 2006 (where I was also in the Closing Ceremony) will certainly watch Opening and Closing ceremonies......but not live at 2.30am tomorrow 😴
Also a local girl is in the boxing, so will watch that.
