2024 Qantas Inflight safety video

B787 passenger oxygen system
Ive seen the Air Canada AC safety video which also has a magical theme. Its Disney themed - though I am unable to understand the link between Mickey Mouse and AC or its safety demonstration but anyway...

Not sure what aircraft it is referring to though, the seat back screen seem to depict a Dreamliner

At 3:45 the oxygen mask demo starts but it has a red pull tab that falls first - i.e. pull red tab to get the O2 mask.
Do any other aircraft have this?

I wanna know what it says about high heels and slides. It does not (so far) and is very annoying....Also can i hold my high heels in my hand as i go down the slide?

OT, but pretty sure the large 320 series order from QF has ensured that thee will be no 737 MAX with a roo on the table well into the medium term and probably forever. Still, things can change - after all, the Airbus order was somewhat of a surprise (but I do think overall is a god one for QF).

Back to the safety video and getting back to comparisons with JAL and the recent incident at Haneda - the JAL video is VERY specific and set in an (animated) version of a cabin which I personally think is better. I note they specifically mention leaving carry on items on board (which QF does not but many others do that I recall seeing). The remarkable thing about the HND incident for mine is the compliance rate with those instructions - and I put a fair degree of success with that as being cultural to the (assumed vast majority) Japanese passengers on that flight - they took the messages on board and obeyed. I tend to think that even if QF says follow our instructions, leave everything behind (which FF's know - or should know) if that was in SYD or LAX, pretty sure people would still be trying to take their stuff and causing delays and all the rest that didn't happen in HND as a rule. We've all seen that happen in other incidents.

If doing the video was up to me, and not overridden by marketing types, I'd want to have an aircraft cabin specific video so the surroundings are familiar - I mean having the beautiful Indian dancers in Jaipur demonstrating the brace position is lovely and all, but it's a bit out of place when you're in an aircraft cabin. I'd be more obvious about where lifejackets are, and I'd definitely mention to follow crew instructions (and include a bit about leaving carry on items behind in the event of an evacuation). That's just me.

If you like at many airline safety videos out there MANY have gone down the "artsy" path, or in settings outside of an aircraft to make it entertaining or something. I understand the thinking behind it, but not the best for a strictly safety message getting out there.

Anyway let's hope NONE of us are ever in a situation where we need to put into practice any of the safety things - never need O2 or to evacuate in a hurry!
 
Well no safety video or prerecorded audio at all just now leaving OOL even though there are screens on board. One of the FAs just did a 1 min spiel over the PA whilst the other FAs did the usual demo. Very efficient indeed but no mention of high heels on slides.

IIRC an AFF contributor (cant remember who, and in a related thread) asked the CC about location of LJ but the particular crew did not immediately know and had to go looking. IIRC it was in F?.

I read elsewhere the passengers actually did not initially follow the safety briefing and had to be corrected by the Cabin Crew. Though the outcome was as you said.

I think in situations like this passenger actions must be a "memory item" which requires preplanning and rehearsing - at least in one's mind. There is no time to read the card for the first time or review the safety video.

Anyone pay attention?
I always pay attention at the very least it is polite and tells the crew yes, you're engaged.

I find it really rude and frustration when people have heads down in a book or phone etc. Yes, the FFs have "heard it all before" but gee it's so disrespectful towards crew who are there to "Save your cough, not kiss it."

Early on my kids didn't pay attention to the safety demonstration because they were colouring in, drawing, etc... irked me to no end. After getting in trouble a couple of times they now know to watch each time and always glance over at me to make sure I see them doing the right thing.

yes, that was me on an QF A380 in First. I genuinely did't catch where the lifejacket was, so asked a flight attendant and they didn’t know either. we found out together. 🙂

Very much a fail for safety. That would get them a couple of other questions, and they'd be at risk of being stood down.
 
I have written aircraft safety briefs in the past. Research shows that if the video is more than 5 minutes long, people loose interest. This one appears to be a promo for Qantas and not a safety brief. I can see a 9 and a half minute safety video causing delays while passengers watch this film

Actually, you raise an ON topic point I think.

Some crews do safety demo before pushback (I've noticed this more and more on international as a general rule), while some flights it's even been during taxi, or a hold point (ie when the tug is disconnected). Some of that may be part of the push off the gate push for OTP, but the other can be just due to workload or whatever.

So, with that in mind, and longer videos - which MUST be done before one takes off of course, that the runtime of vids can have an effect.

It is literally a promo and not a safety brief. The 787 operational version is posted above, it is 5:59. I expect 737 etc will be even shorter. In the past they have been about 4 minutes (and their promo cuts were 8+ minutes too).

The video usually starts around pushback, +/- a minute or so. You'd be doing very well to push back, disconnect and get to the holding point in six minutes. Perhaps at airports where the aircraft don't push back and self taxi, it might shave a few minutes.

In most cases the video is over before you've left the apron. But of course the crew have to do the cabin inspection etc after that (though they start towards the end of the video usually).

Come now… they clearly featured Mexico in that video 😜

I'm fairly sure Noosa is a Victorian exclave.
 
For the place in Lapland, Kakslauttanen, the nearest airport would be Ivalo (IVL). Not found in the QF booking interface. AY will happily sell you the trip from Australia on a single ticket = for those who want to search for 30 secs to find where to book, their money goes direct to another airline. Possibly not the intent of QF Marketing but that's the reality.

When checking QF website for RVN, the town's name is spelled incorrectly. Are they seriously entering the names manually, or what's this??? You'd think they just look up the names from a reputable globally used list. Next, we'll see QF issuing handwritten carbon copy ticket booklets to pax...

Not that long ago, they had "Yugoslavia" listed as the country for one of the airports in eastern Europe. I think it was Podgorica. That was quickly fixed though once pointed out.
