No travel plans thread for 2025?

If there is mods, please merge. I decided to post after last night's bookings.

Start the year in Busan Korea. We fly to Seoul on Dec 24. We'll spend 13 days between Seoul, Jeju, Busan and Gyeongju.

Another dsc run to CHC over Oz Day weekend. Staying down at NZ's little France, Akaroa. I love the irony ;)

Up to Cairns to catch up with our Port friends over Easter.

Last night we booked a return to Africa for most of June. East this time. Managed to get PE reward seats BNE-JNB for bAlt without having to call. Funny part of the booking was his flight up from SYD. Seat selection only offered in J! No such luck with my revenue flight :)

19 night private Kenya-Tanzania tour, Nairobi to Mobasa, with Tapestry of Africa. Very excited.

Jan 3rd, returning from my Christmas ‘24 Caribbean cruise via DFW.

In March, to New Zealand for the Auckland AFF dinner and then on to the Cook Islands for a week. Air New Zealand direct from Hobart in economy 😳 (no other class on the bird) and then PE to the Cook Islands all without any status. 😱

May sees me fly to Paris on QR to go onto Dubrovnik and a small group tour of the Balkans for 10 days, then back to Paris and about five days looking at the châteaux of the Loire valley before I get flown to Longyearbyen for a 10 day cruise around arctic Spitsbergen. Fly back to Paris, a few days around Barcelona and then back home.

Bit of a rest up until December 2025 when I’m doing Ponant cruise across the Indonesian archipelago from Bali finishing at Cairns.

Contemplating a trip to Madagascar and Reunion in September on Areoplan Miles but my CC may need a bit of a rest.

Taking it all carefully we have a confirmed SS cruise Singapore to Male in February and if all goes well maybe something late in the year.
Persuading swmbo to accept a long haul flight anywhere has become very difficult..such is life..

Feb to Japan, some hiking in the Japan Alps and onsen (hopefully in snow!). Then to Kyoto (long time no see!) and Hyogo for some winter crabbing 🤣

Want to cycle the Shimanami Kaido in Nov plus some onsen hopping in Yamaguchi and Northern Kyushu, but out of points as of now...hoping for a sale from CX or CI or SQ....
Post automatically merged:

Off to Japan in March, spending a few weeks travelling the west, especially Kyushu and Shikoku, then back home again. Like exploring the random places in the middle of nowhere and seeing what I can find.

Shikoku is quiet for sure, but holy cow Kyushu is flooded with tourists....

The year will start off in Laos.

During the year, the Stans are likely.

Tibet is also looming.

All subject to change of course....

Interesting, we are off to Laos next month, and I had booked the Stans for next Sept, but after serious consideration, canceled it. The boss still has issues with her knees.

So at this stage I have booked motel in Dunedin, early April, my friend is running his Escort Cosworth rally car in the Otago Rally, then Burra in S.A. at the end of April for another rally, hope to get out to Wirrabara, as well, seems I have family history there.

Then more rallies, a WRC event somewhere after they release next years calendar.

Hopefully catch up with our Austrian friends at an event there and with a bit of luck some historic rallies in Europe as well.

Starting from next year, me and my partner are trying to be more organised with our travels. We plan to travel each quarter so there's always something to look forward to in-between work.

So, for next year this is our plan:

Feb: 2 weeks in the Philippines
Apr: 2 weeks in Vietnam (including 3 nights in Bali)
Sep: 10 days split between Shanghai and Singapore
Dec: 2 weeks in Egypt

Would have loved the first half of the year to be more spread out but couldn't resist the amount of holidays in April with Easter and ANZAC close to each other.

Have a trip to Georgia booked for Jan with stopover in Turkey. I would like to visit the breakaway republic of Abkhazia but they have declined my entry permit application twice already. (They say incomplete applications will be automatically declined - there is a field for spouse that I leave blank because there is no option to declare singleness - perhaps I need to get hitched before applying the 3rd time?)

I'm applying for leave in June to go back to the motherland to watch the NHL finals.

Osaka's hosting the World Expo so I'd like to attend that sometime during their summer months.

Fortnightly-monthly trips to NZ (to see sights but mainly to get duty free alcohol on the way back).

None of these are 100% as I am a lowly public servant working for a capricious employer, but if all goes well at work this will be it.

We are still hesitating before pulling the trigger but southern France, with a detour to Strasbourg, seems to be likely. We are still working out the details but plan to introduce our grandchildren, 11 & 8 then, to Singapore and Penang - with their mother in tow.

We haven’t really organised anything yet but have a mate in the Australian test cricket team and going to go to the Caribbean next and get to a test to watch him. Will look into doing a Caribbean cruise at the same time and probably tack on a couple of weeks in the US or Europe before or after. Just waiting for your dates to be announced.
Will get over to the ME for another week or two in January, most likely 3 days in Doha and then a resort somewhere in the UAE

Why this urban resort in Dubai goes way beyond five-star

Superlatives matter in the United Arab Emirates. Dubai is home to the tallest building, the largest shopping mall, the longest urban zip-line and so on. But all the bravado and braggadocio, all the Guinness World Records, don’t always align with good taste. The glitziest concepts can curdle into the tackiest. One Za’abeel is a rarity, though, as polished as it is pioneering. Hatched by Japanese studio Nikken Sekkei, the project features the globe’s lengthiest cantilever. Yet the more impressive feat is how this elongated corridor, known as The Link, was adapted by the hotel masterminds. “Our view was to say, since we don’t have a beach, let’s create a beach in the sky,” said Philippe Zuber, chief executive officer of Kerzner International, the owner of One&Only.

4 weeks in Japan and Hong Kong in March

A trip planned for 2020 that was cancelled at T-4 weeks due to covid, and my first OS holiday in a decade (divorce will do that to you)

In hindsight, it will be a very different trip to the 2020 version, for the better I am certain.

Trip report will happen - just not sure if I will do it real time or when I am back.

Moving to NYC next year, so will have a couple trips down under.
  • January: Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam
  • February: Hong Kong, Taiwan
  • March: Dusseldorf, London
  • April: New York City
  • May: Las Vegas
  • August: Hong Kong, Sydney, Melbourne
  • October: Sydney, Melbourne
  • December: Hong Kong, Taiwan, Seoul
