2025 travel plans

First trip to China booked for next year, CX have increased flights so it’s day flights each way ex BNE to CAN. I am not a big fan of the HKG-CAN leg given I am usually headed to Shenzhen, but it drops pricing down to $700 return and gives me a reason to book a couple of nights at the Swissotel Foshan. Still to lock in ZRH in June (train/boat to FDH for show along with a visit to the Zepplin and Dornier Museums) and HND for August.

Last night booked tickets to London in Oct 25, of course I booked to stop over in Tokyo on the way back 🤣
Now, two weeks in London, where else can I go?? Would Scotland be cold?🤔

to me it would be perfect - not too many tourists.

A lot of the stately homes and tourist attractions close at the end of October

We were in the Highlands this last October and it was cold, but not too cold. Really beautiful time of year to visit (we were in Partmahomack ,near Tain and close to Dornoch).

We’re heading to Tokyo mid-year. First time going to a non-English speaking country but looking forward to embracing the culture shock - and DuoLingo should help me with the basics.

Also learnt my lesson from last year’s Singapore trip by flying back via MEL and not SYD 😂

Generally not too bad in October, but that also depends on your definition of cold...

Melbourne based here, normally I'd say prefer a 15-20 day...

If I'm going to Scotland that would be first thing, so mid Oct.
I want to take the Caledonian Sleeper....surprise surprise🤣

The Caledonian Sleeper is on my list - some friends did it last year and are doing it again this year

I heard people saying the journey to Edinburgh is too short for a good sleep. So I'm thinking taking it to Inverness, and then from there to see the highlands and Skye.

absolutely the longer the better. Will you drive in the highlands or use Public transport

You certainly can drive yourself around Sri Lanka (many hire a tuk tuk) but it wouldn't be my choice of travel. Lucky is still operating and is an excellent driver, guide & converationalist. You don't have to lock yourself into hiring him for your total holiday eg have tour & get get dropped at a beach location & make your own way back to Colombo (very easy to organise a casual driver). Happy to put you in contact with him if you want his details.
Hi RB, that would be great if you can.

Things we're thinking of doing include .... Dambulla, Sigiriya, Kandy (then train to Ella or vice versa), somewhere along the south coast like Hiriketiya, then Galle Fort, before heading back Colombo (over 7 days).

Interested in how many days you are planning for Alhambra - I've been to Seville and Malaga before but keen to get to Cordoba and Grenada. I also missed out on Porto last year when I was ill so maybe this time. I love Lisbon

Yes - weirdly we only discovered Portugal for the first time this year (but did not get to Porto). Loved Sintra and Lisbon -food,people,art and Moorish history.

Booked another trip when we got back staying coastal (Estoril) and then focussing on Porto 4days. Need another day in Lisbon at my world’s best ceramics store!

We have done northern Spain. I am not a Barcelona lover. So plan a fortnight in the south. Planning two nights in Alhambra so can do at an unhurried pace and with private guide at ‘quieter’ times. We plan Cordoba - will report back.
