Hi
I have an upcoming flight SYD-MEL and it is flagging my seat as an exit row - 23B. Does this mean I will have to check in at the airport?
This is an A330-200.
I have never seen this config before.

If you on-line check-in when you assigned an exit row, you can complete the process but the "boarding pass" you print will need to be exchanged for a real boarding pass at the airport. That can be done at the Qantas Club service desk when entering the lounge. Just hand over the check-in confirmation page (that says "This is not a boarding pass") and they will exchange it for a boarding pass. No problem - its a simple process.

And yes, on the domestic config A330-200, row 23 is an exit row.

... or even as late as at the gate after scanning the barcode on the back of your FF card.

Cool thanks - my PA picked the seat so I only just realised it was an exit.

Flew row 23 last week on A330-200, its right in front of the doors, so heaps of legroom, only problem I found is you're almost sitting in the galley and it was very noisy!

I pre-selected row 23 then just did Kiosk checkin at the lounge entry no problems at all.

I have sat there in the past. Don't get to see that aircraft too often on my SYD-BNE flights.

Same here, had it SYD-MEL the other day and was impressed with this config. Helped that I had 23A&B and a brand new young FA in the jumpseat in front which was better than staring at the IFE. Best Y legroom in entire fleet (basically limitless).

I did get rejected at Q pole check and had to check with the desk in the J lounge.

Re-reading the above, does appreciating the beautiful young FA make me a misogynist? :p

For those with an iPhone, I always use the Qantas iPhone app to check-in, even when I'm in an exit row. You can do this with or without checked luggage, and then either I get a boarding pass at the QP entrance or check-in counter (if travelling with luggage) or just use my card at the gate. It asks you to confirm whether you meet the requirements for Exit row as part of the check-in process.

But be careful, they switch the colours for a successful confirmation from the previous screen (which is about carrying dangerous goods). Make sure you read and select the correct answer for the question. I pressed the wrong one in a hurry one time, and it bumped me to another row and my check-in was marked as "not suitable" for exit row, and the call centre nor the Qantas fellow I got at local Baggage handling (with access to the checkin system) couldn't do anything for me to move me back.

I don't know if the same applies for people with Android phones or just using the Qantas mobile site on any phone.

Speaking of row 23, why is it that as a newly promoted WP why is row 23 always blocked out for my next few flights row 26 seems to be the most forward available?

They are BNE-PER return on a 767 - 300 or 200 not sure?

As posted elsewhere, it seems that in general the first two row of seating for domestic economy are eclusively reserved for CL (& WP1) until, perhaps, T-80.

This has been the case since DOM advance seat selection came in - front two rows of whY blocked for CL then opened up at T-80. When WP I was able to often jump forward to the front row at T-80. When P1 came in this stopped happening. AS a P1 I can enjoy the front row of whY for the next 11 months at least.

If you pre-allocate an exit row seat via MMB don't worry about doing OLCI or the Podium/Qcard reader (QCR) at the airport. Those methods will still check you in (despite message that says you're in an exit row etc etc) however as that you are not yet verified as being suitable for the exit row your name will appear on the 'ineligible to board' list until you are verified so if you tried to board you'd get the dreaded beep at the gate.

If you are seated in an exit row but have already done OLCI or the QCR you'll need to do either of the following options:

See the lounge agent & tell them you're in an exit row & need a boarding pass reprint. They will see the pop up screen asking if you're able bodied etc & when the select yes this will remove your name off the list so you'll be able to board.

The other method is to see the gate agent prior to boarding & tell them you're seated in an exit row. They can then delete your name off the ineligible to board list from the boarding application. There is no need to get the bit of cardboard as you can still use your QF ff card with the chip in it by scanning it at the gate reader then taking the docket that will print out & show to the CSM on boarding.

If travelling with checked luggage & using a Qtag you will still be able to drop your bag off at the auto bag drop even if you are not yet verified for the exit row as you are still checked in for the flight.

The best methods to use for check in if you have pre-allocated the exit row are:

a) Mobile checkin as the portal asks you the exit row questions
b) Using premium checkin
c) Using the self service kioks.

If you have accidentaly said that you're not suitable for the exit row it will bounce you out of the exit row into another seat. Forget calling up res as they don't have access to checkin so won't be able to rectify the issue.

All the checkin person needs to do is remove the "NOEX" SSR from Altea via 'delete service' then they can put you back into an exit row seat if they are still available at the time. It sounds like the fellow at the bag drop didn't know how to do this.

QF no longer have 767-200's only the -300 series however the 763 has 3 different configs:

a) International config 25/204 seats VH-OG*
b) Domestic config 30/222 seats VH-OG* (exception VH-OGV which is 30/219)
c) Domestic config 30/214 seats VH-ZX* (formerly BA aircraft)

When you get to Platinum One you will be able to select row 23. In the meantime enjoy the benefits of Gold status.

I believe Qantas only has 767-300s and 767-338s.

JohnK please stop perpetuating this myth. On a 763 CL/P1 get 23/24. WP get 25/26. SG get 27-28 or 27 - 29. I have seen this on colleagues Bps.

Again for instance we changed flights on Friday - I got front row of whY and a Gold colleague got row 30. WP is not the same as SG.

Same same but different.

The 38 part of the 767-338 is the airline customer's serial number & QF is 38 hence QF have 747-438's which are still a 747-400.

The QF B767 fleet are either 767-338 which are all the VH-OG* a/c or 767-336 which are VH-ZX*. The latter were originally owned by BA who have the customer number of 36.

When QF had 762's in their fleet they were a 767-238.
